In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do hip lifts and a basic shimmy. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So, now, we are going to go over the basic hip lift. Let's assume our basic belly dance posture position. So, the legs are right under the hip bones. Knees are bent. Lower abs are tucked, chest lifted, arms out. And now you are going to bend the knees even more than before and focus on lifting one hip at a time by straightening one knee at a time. So, as you straighten the right knee, the right hip will come up and it is going to shoot straight up into your body. So you want to think about meeting your hip bone up to the ribcage coming back down to center. Switching over to the other side, straightening that knee, coming back down. Make sure you're keeping your heels on the floor and you are not lifting up with any point. And again, lifting the hip up and back down to neutral position, the other side back down to position. Now, skip that hold in the middle and you're going to go up, and up and up, and up. And, the closer your are to the ground, the easier it will be to find that isolation. Let's try that with music. And a little bit faster, keeping your heels on the floor, chest floating out, arms relaxed. Make sure you are not moving in space and your head is not bopping up and down. And faster. And full speed. And that is the basic hip isolation.

Our expert is going to show you a scale he calls the pentatonic pattern #1. It's a practical scale he uses every single day. Once you learn it, you no doubt will too. Next on the list is scales. So scales ‚Äì there's many, many, many books of scales, big encyclopedias of scales, but I'd like to show you the most practical scales that I use every single day. The very first scale I ever learned, I like to call it pentatonic pattern number 1, but it's just a pentatonic scale, or a shape of one. Let's dive in. I'm going to do it here at the 5th fret. So I'm on the 5th fret of the 6th string. And I'm going to use my first finger. Then the next note is not the 2nd fret away from that, not the 3rd fret, but the 4th fret. So on the 6th string I have the 1st and the 4th. Then I move down to the 5th string. And I'm going to do 1, 3 ‚Äì so notice I'm using my third finger. Then the next string, 4th string: 1 and 3. And then 1 ‚Äì 3 again, but on the 3rd string. Then 1-4, but on the 2nd. And then 1-4 on the 1st. So you see, 1-4. That's why I'm saying those numbers, so I have: 1-4; 1-3; 1-3; 1-3; 1-4; 1-4. Now if I want to go backwards, I just start with this note and work my way back. So I go: 4-1; 4-1; 3-1; 3-1; 3-1; 4-1. Now, this is a movable shape, just like bar chords or power chords. I can move this anywhere on the guitar and the shape doesn't change. That's the beauty of the guitar. Let's say we do it at the3rd fret. So I'm going to do it: 1-4; 1-3 ‚ and backwards. How about the 7th fret? And then how about we try Open. That's a little trickier because I have to pretend that my first finger is playing, sort of. Can you see the pattern here? I have in this imaginary spot, 1-4; 1-3; 1-3; all the way down. Of course we're not going to play it like that. We're going to play it a little more natural, right? So it's O-3; O-2; O-2; O-2; O-3; and O-3. That's the same exact pattern. It looks a little different. That's a little thing about the guitar, you always have to compensate for the open aspect. And then I'm just going to work my way backward. 3-O; 3-O; 2-O; 2-O; 2-O; 3-O. There you go. Pentatonic Pattern Number 1.

Belly Dance Moves: Interior Hip Circles From: Irina Akulenko So now lets try interior hip circles. Keeping the knees bent, legs are underneath the hipbones, chest lifted. We are going to contract the right hip up, contract the lower abs in, contract the left hip up, and come back to neutral. Lifting the right side up, contracting the lower abs, keeping the upper abs relaxed, left side and release. One and two and three and four. In contrast to the exterior hip circles; the hips would actually roll. Exterior hip circles, keep the hips parallel to the floor and the interior hip circle we're actually going to roll the hips under. So, let's try that with music. [Music] [Slowly making internal hip circle movements] Make sure chest is lifted; arms are still and let's try it faster. [Continues with faster hip circles] Let's try going the other direction [Slowly does hip circles in the other direction] and roll. [Continues with rhythmic rolling of the hips movement] And you can go faster. And that's how you do an interior hip circle.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do hip drops. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So now lets go for the basic hip drop. Lets shift the weight over to the left foot, step the right right in front, keep the heel lifted. Bend both knees, especially the bend in this knee- you want to make sure this knee remains bent no matter what throughout the entire movement. This is the most important part. Step the other foot right in front, heel lifted, chest up, shoulders back, stretch your arms all the way out. Make sure your still breathing when your here. Now we are going to push our weight into the right leg, straightening a teeny teeny bit to go into the hip lift. Now from here your going to release all the way dropping the hip down. Again lifting up and down, up and down. And no matter what the left leg is staying bent. The left knee remains bent no matter what. And up and down and up. And lets try that with music. And double temp. And faster. And again make sure your not bouncing up down in space. The head remains at the same level. The chest is lifted and isolate it away from the rest of your body. And thats how you do a basic hip drop.

How to Survive a Hurricane

03:31
Watch more Hurricanes & Storms videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/471526-How-to-Survive-a-Hurricane Don't wait until a storm is heading your way! Survive a hurricane with these safety precautions. Step 1: Plan ahead Plan ahead. Know the location of local shelters and how you'll evacuate if you don't have a car. If you have family members with special medical needs, ask local officials if there's a registry so they get help in the event of power outages. Pick a place for family members to meet in case you become separated, and designate an out-of-town friend as the person everyone calls to report that they're safe. Get flood insurance if you don't already have it. Tip Make sure you know how to shut off electricity, gas, and water in case you're instructed to do so. Step 2: Be prepared Have the following supplies on hand at the start of hurricane season: a 3-day supply of water that provides 1 gallon per person per day; a 3-day supply of non-perishable food that doesn't require cooking; a flashlight and extra batteries; a battery-powered radio that can receive broadcasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; a first-aid kit; and a 7-day supply of medications. Tip The Atlantic and Central Pacific hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30; the Eastern Pacific is from May 15 through November. Step 3: Get ready If a hurricane warning is issued -- meaning one is expected in the next 36 hours -- bring in anything that can be tossed around by the wind; close and board up all windows and doors with 5/8" marine plywood, unless you have hurricane shutters; clear rain gutters and downspouts; trim trees and shrubs; put your refrigerator and freezer on the coldest setting; and fill your car's gas tank in case you're ordered to evacuate. Step 4: Go to a safe place If you live on the first or 2nd floor of a high rise, make plans to take refuge with neighbors between floors 3 and 10 when the storm begins. Residents who live above the 10th floor should evacuate, as should mobile home dwellers and anyone living on a floodplain, near a river, or on an inland waterway. Step 5: Do last-minute preparations Shortly before the storm is expected to start, fill your bathtub with water so you have an extra supply on hand. Unplug small appliances and sensitive electronics, and turn off propane tanks. Step 6: Ride out the storm When the storm starts, stay away from windows and glass doors and avoid using the phone. Go to your home's lowest level and stay in an interior room, closet, or hallway. Have a mattress or pillow to protect your head. Monitor weather conditions on your radio and don't leave your safe place until local officials say it's okay to do so. Step 7: Avoid post-storm dangers If you lose electricity, keep circuit breakers turned off until power is restored, then check for frayed wires. If you see any, call the power company. Leave the house immediately if you smell gas. If you're returning home, don't enter your house if floodwaters remain around the building; you see loose power lines or structural damage; or you smell a gas leak. If you have any safety concerns at all, stay elsewhere until your home is checked by a building inspector or structural engineer. Did You Know? 2/3 of the hurricanes that hit land in the United States between 1981 and 2011 struck the Gulf Coast. The other third hit the Atlantic Coast.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do chest lifts. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. Belly Dance Moves Chest Lifts: Now we're going to try to do the chest lift. Let's assume our basic belly dance posture position, arms out, chest lifted, knees pressed together, tailbone down and you're going to feel the muscles in your upper back. Try not to slide the shoulders down the back, you're going to lift the ribcage all the way up and release back down. As you lift you're going to feel a squeeze right between the shoulder blades and as you bring the chest down, you're going to feel your upper abs get engaged and contract all the way down. Lifting all the way up and dropping all the way down. And what you want to avoid is using your breath, meaning if you want to try this in the beginning you might want to inhale all the way up and exhale all the way down but you want to find those isolations without using your breath. So you're going to lift all the way up and drop all the way down and up and let's try that with music. As you're lifting be careful not to arch your lower back, so you want to keep the tailbone pointing down no matter what. And again relax the neck, lifting up and down. And a little bit faster, reaching straight up and down. When you're comfortable with this movement, add the arms and try it with the arms overhead and bring the hands down. And that's how you isolate the chest going up and down.

Our expert shows you just how to line them up. How do we use those two patterns we just learned? Pentatonic pattern 1 and pentatonic pattern 2. Every key, every musical key has a relationship both with major and minor. So at the same time that you might be in G major you're also in E minor, and there's a relationship for every single major key to another minor key. Right? So we can use that a little bit to our advantage if I use my 1st pentatonic scale. Right? If you remember its: 1, 4, 1, 3, 1, 3, 1, 3, 1, 4, 1, 4. My 1st finger is the minor root. So, at this point I'm at the 5th fret of the 6st string. That's A, so this is A minor, and then my pinkie is going to be the major root. I know this sounds complicated but just bear with me here. This is C major. Right? So A minor, C major. That relationship never changes. No matter what kind of instrument you play A minor and C major are eternally bonded. So, A minor, C major. I found that on the 6th string. OK, now pentatonic pattern 2, the roots happen to be on the 5th string. OK? So let's find A minor, or C major, on the 5th string. So, the 5th string is already A, so we could use that, but, you know, dealing with the open string in the beginning can be a little difficult, so why don't we shoot up to the 12th fret. Remember that's A again. Right? So, here's A minor. C major for pentatonic pattern 2, and, of course we don't have to start there. We can do the whole scale, the full scale, so, the whole scale is 1, 4, 1, 4, 1, 3, 1, 3, 2, 4, 1, 4. Right? Remember that? So, songs are written in keys. Right? A family of chords that belong together. For example, songs can be written in the key of G. All chords belong together, and they are all sort of centered around G. Right? Everything I do to that song, over the top of it while somebody else plays guitar, or maybe somebody singing, and now, it's my turn to solo. I'm going to do it in G major. Right? So, I'm going to find G. Right? So, let's say here is G, on the 6th string, and because it's major, I'm going to use my pinkie. Right? Remember, pinkie is major, 1st finger is minor, so I'm going to use my pinkie to line this up. Right? Now, in this case again, I've got that open string so it's going to be a little bit of a problem. We can still do it, but just so you can really see it, I'm going to move it all the way up here, to the 12th fret. Right? Remember that's where the guitar starts again. Here's my 1st pentatonic scale. 1, 4, 1, 3, 1, 3. Right? Do you remember that? And then, we can also do it with our 2nd pattern. Right? Here's the A string. That's where we're going to get the note from. So, A, B, C, D, E, F and G. We found G again. I'm just going to put my pinkie on it. Right? That's our major finger, and so now I know when I line it up, I'm at the 7th fret. So, here's where my pentatonic pattern 2 will go. 1, 4, 1 4, 1, 3, 1, 3, 2, 4, 1, 4. And that's it. That's how you line up your 2 pentatonic scales.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do the belly dance move known as piston hips. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So now we're going to try a downward hip accent or as we can call it piston hips. So, now we're going to keep the knees really bent. We're going to lift the right hip up and we're actually going to take the right hip off the floor as well completely. Then we're going to take a step onto the right leg and we're going to instantly life the left leg off of the floor. And again switching to the right foot hovering above the floor and then switching to the left foot. While we're doing this we're actually going to add a hip drop on each side. So in order to do a hip drop you can just release the hip down and life it back up and you are going to feel this in your obliques. So as we switch our weight to the right side your going to do an accent downward. You're going to hop over lifting the hip off the floor which is the opposite side. Switch, and switch, and switch and switch, and what you want you want to try to avoid is having a bounce down. In order to do that you need to keep the knees really bent at all times, chest lifted tummy tucked. Lets try with music. And since you're taking a step with each movement you can travel with this very easily. You can come forward, you can travel back. Lets try that a little bit faster. Remember to still breathe, relax the neck, relax the hands. And that's how you do a downward twisted hip.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do the belly dance move known as the walking shimmy. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So now let's try the "walking hip shimmy". In order to prepare for it, let's keep the knees really bent. Let's think about those hip lifts we did earlier. Nice and slow, lifting one hip at a time. And you want to really feel this in your sides more than pushing through the knees. Just because we're going to use the knees in order to be able to walk. So, try to feel this in your obliques more than anything else. Remember to keep the chest lifted, lower abs tucked no matter what you're doing with your hips. While we're here, try lifting one heel off the floor, but still not compromising the integrity of the shimmy. What that means is that you're not hyper-lifting one side and barely lifting the other. You want to try to keep it as even as possible, even though one foot is slightly higher than the other. Let's try the other side. Lifting the left heel off the floor. Trying to keep the hip shimmy even. Chest lifted and the heel down. Right heel lifted. Now try to lift the foot off the floor. You can either touch it to the ankle of the opposite leg, or let it hover in front. And step back together. Try the other side. Lifting the foot off. Try extending forward. And while you're doing this, try to have a continuous relaxed shimmy no matter what. And place it back down. Let's try that with music. We're going to lift the right heel up. Take a step. Lift the left heel up. And lift the foot. And step. Stepping back. Try to have a continuous relaxed shimmy no matter what. Lifting the chest, shoulders back, arms full of energy. Let's try a little bit faster. Traveling back. And that's how you walk with a shimmy.

For more, visit me on twitter at downtownShallon or be sure to check out my website Shallononline.com. Girls I know that sometimes boys seem kind of mysterious. They don't really say what they mean. They don't communicate very well. But if you know what to look for you can read a boy like a book without him ever having to open his mouth. Here's a few tips when it comes to boys body language. There are a few good signs you definitely want to look for that shows a guy is in to you. Number 1, he's looking at you in the eye. Seems obvious right? Although you might want to cut a guy some slack if he's not directly making sustained eye contact, it could be he's just nervous. Another good sign is if he's mirroring your body language. If you put your hand on your head and he does the same thing this is a good sign. People who are truly in sync often match up their body language and when people are really connected they will match up their breathing. Interesting right? Another good sign is he's got his hands in his back pocket. A lot of guys get fidgety when it comes to their hands so cut them some slack on this one too. If his hands are in his back pocket then he's opening up his chest like a man, like a tarzan man, and pointing it towards you the chick he likes. Also, in the same vein, you want his knees to be facing towards you. Basically his whole body should be turned to face towards you. A lot of guys sit with their legs splayed wide open, I mean come on ladies I think we all know what that means, so even though it's not the most well mannered thing a man can do, it is a good sign when it comes to flirting. Some sign not so good. If a guy is rubbing the back of his neck, going like that, that means he's feeling pressure. He probably does not like the conversation your having he kind of wants to get out of it. If your confronting a guy about something, maybe your asking him if he's cheating and he touches his face when he's answering, that's also a bad sign. That means he's lying. Like he's unconsciously trying to stop the words from coming out of his mouth. Bad. And just like I said before if a guys posture is mostly turned away from you that's not great either. I see so many girls out on dates who are turned like this to their date and just hanging on them and the guy literally has his arms crossed and is facing away. Not a good sign. So with a little practice you will be able to pick up on these things quicker and quicker and get a very good idea of where your romance is heading.

How to Survive in the Desert without Water

01:51
Watch more Disaster Survival & Worst-Case Scenarios videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/447721-How-to-Survive-in-the-Desert-without-Water Don’t trust mirages; if you need to survive in the desert without water, these tips could save your life. Step 1: Don’t eat Avoid eating as much as possible. You can survive longer without food than without water, and the digestive process uses water. Step 2: Try not to sweat Minimize perspiration by relegating physical activity to nighttime. And keep your clothing on -- it helps slow the evaporation of your sweat. Wrap a piece of fabric around your head if you don’t have a hat. Using your urine to dampen your clothes will further reduce sweating. Tip Don’t drink your urine; your body will use more water to remove the waste material than it will gain. Step 3: Dig for water If you spot any green plants or dry lake beds, dig there until the soil becomes moist, and wait for water to seep into the hole. It may provide enough water to survive in the desert until you get out or are rescued. Step 4: Forget about cactus Forget the myth about getting water from a cactus: You’ll probably lose more hydration from the ensuing vomiting than you'll gain from the few drops you manage to drink. Step 5: Follow bees Look for flies or mosquitoes, which means water is nearby. If you see a bee, follow it; bees fly in a straight line to and from water, so it will lead you right to a source. Did You Know? An Austrian teenager survived a record 18 days without food or water in 1979, when police forgot they'd put him in a holding cell.

Learn how to play power chords in this guitar lesson from Howcast. The step-by-step instructions make it easy. Okay power chords! You are definently going to come across power chords! A lot of rock bands use it, punk rock groups use it. Its a great way of getting around the guitar because you're only using one shape. All right. All right. Now if you remember we talked about chords before and we said they were three different notes played at the same time. Well if you notice I'm only playing two notes so a power chord. You know. You can't. There's no major, there's no minor. You don't know what it is because there is only two notes, there's no extra note to give that away. So what happens is you get a real nice, thick sound. Especially if we had a distortion pedal, it'd be a really nice, thick sound. And it's not... it's not a pretty note. Right? It's not a pretty chord. It's just... It's just a nice thick chord. Right? All right! So let's talk about the shape. The shape is... Let's make one here at the sixth string, third fret. All right. So I'm going to put my first finger on the sixth string third fret. And then my ring finger is going to go one string up and two frets over. As you can see my ring finger here is on the fifth string fifth fret. Now with my strumming hand, I'm going to... Well I gotta be careful here. I only want to hit those two notes. All right if I hit more... that doesn't sound so good, right? So I can only hit those two. Maybe you want to make the three finger version, well I can only hit those three of course, you know? And then if you want to get a little more advanced, you can try and mute out all of the strings you don't need with your first finger. It's a little bit harder but you can do it. And then what happens is you have those three notes... and then nothing else. And so... Maybe you could do that with two fingers. Now if I do... If I move it to the fifth string, not only do I have to try to mute those guys out, but I have to try to mute out this sixth string. So what do I do. i use... I just use the tip of my finger to mute it out a little bit... and only those notes come out. so power chords are a great way to move around the guitar with one shape... and to get a nice, thick sound for rock music.Let's talk about F. F is a very hard chord and in the beginning, it can be very frustrating to make. So the first thing you have to do is with your first finger is you have to play two strings, both on the first fret, on the first and second strings and that's the hard part right there. The other two are, you're second finger's going to play the third string second fret, and your third finger's going to play the fourth string third fret. And here you also have to be careful where you strum; that you only hit these last four... to get the full sound. Now, when i first started I could never get that... string to come out, you know? It takes a lot of practice, I wouldn't worry about that. Let's just try and get as many as we can... and then eventually it will fall right into place. There you go. F major.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do the belly dance move known as the traveling twist. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. Now let's try the travelling hip twist. Keeping the knees bent, just lift, the lower abs engaged, tailbone down. We're going to twist front to back, keeping the movement horizontal to the floor. So we're just twisting the hips. Now we're going to just take a step with the right foot, crossing the left behind. And again right, and crossing behind, right, crossing behind, and make sure you are taking very small steps keeping the movement right underneath your hip bone. We're going to switch the footwork. We're going to start with the left, crossing the right behind, and left, right behind. And again, keeping it really small. The smaller the movements are, the easier the hip work will be. Now, we're going to combine the two movements together. We're going to bring the hip back. We're going to release the right foot, so this is the right side that's active right now. We're going to step into the right leg and push the right hip forward into a twist. Then we're going to bring the left foot behind, bringing the hip back. And step forward, cross back. And forward, cross back. And forward, cross back. We can switch the movement, as well, so starting with the left foot, we're going to bring the left hip back, lifting the left foot off the floor, stepping onto it, pushing the left hip forward, and bring it back. Step forward and back. And we're focusing on one hip at a time where the other hip is obviously working. So, let's try that a little bit faster, and try it with music. And forward and back. And left, cross, left, cross, left. And this movement is a little bit easier if you're travelling faster, if you come up on your toes. So, starting with the right hip, and forward. And remember to keep the knees slightly bent no matter what. Chest is lifted. And faster. And that's how you travel with a hip twist.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to isolate lower abs. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. Now let's try isolating our lower abs only. Keeping the knees bent, tailbone down, chest lifted, shoulders back, arms out. You're going to contract about an inch below the belly button to pull the muscles in. In the beginning you might try to rotate the hips under which is fine so just find that isolation, but ideally you want this to be a purely muscular movement that does not compromise a normal position. So in the beginning let's just rotate the hips under contracting in, and release, and in, and release, and make sure that when you release you do not untuck your tailbone back, you wanna make sure that your back stays straight even when you uncurl to come back to neutral position. So let's try that with music. Now try to isolate just the lower ab muscles, do not move your hips, so the hip bones will actually remain neutral. Trying to contract just the lower abs, pulling in, and release, in, and release. And a little bit faster. While you're isolating keep the upper abs relaxed. And faster. That's how you isolate your lower abs.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do the belly dance move known as the Basic Egyptian. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So now we're going to learn how to do the Basic Egyptian. Come back to the neutral position keeping the knees bent, once again chest lifted, lower abs in. And you're going to touch the right foot in front, and come back, touch the left, and come back. Touch the right, and come back, touch the left, and come back. Keep the knees slightly bent at all times. And now as you touch you're going to push the hip up, and release, and the other side. And as you push up, that hip is going to go to the opposite, upward diagonal. So if you're squeezing your right hip up you're going to aim at the left upper corner. And reverse it, when you're squeezing the left side, aiming at the right upper corner. Chest is lifted, and adding that small lift and twist. Once again, you want to make sure you're not bouncing in space, the chest is lifted, the head is still. And once again from the side. And now we're going to add arms. Same active side of the leg will be active with the arm as well, so the right hand will be reached right in front, the left will touch the top of your head, and then you're going to switch. Pushing right in front, and down. From the side. So now we're going to start both the hand and the leg at the same time. Reaching forward the right side, with a twist, and switch, with a twist. Let's try that with music. And there are various arm positions for this movement, so you can see lots of different variations, but this is one of the most basic versions. So this is how you do the Basic Egyptian.

How to Use a Sharpening Stone | Knives

Watch more What You Need to Know About Knives videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/497077-How-to-Use-a-Sharpening-Stone-Knives Learn how to use a sharpening stone in this Howcast video with expert Dan Delavan. Hi. My name is Dan Delavan. I am the Owner/Operator of Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa, CA. We have a great selection. We also have a website; plazacutlery.com. Today we are going to be talking about knives. A sharpening stone is a stone that has got a coarse side and usually a finer side, and that is going to take and re-shape your edge and get it back down thin enough in order to sharpen it. You are basically taking something that is blunt and thinning it back down. You have to remove all of this extra metal and get it back down to where it is thin enough to cut. Very simply, all a knife is is a very thin piece of steel to split whatever you are cutting. If the knife is obviously thicker, it is like trying to cut something with a chisel; it is not going to happen. There are two stones. There is the India and there is the crystolon. Once you feel them, obviously the difference is coarseness. The one thing about the India stone, it is a harder stone and the brown is the finer side, you have to use oil with it. You cannot use it dry, so therefore it is messy. The coarse stone will cut the metal off quicker but it is going to give you a rougher edge but that way the job gets done quicker, without the oil. It is not as messy. This is just a real simple set up. If you do wood work you can make a little wooden box and rout it out. In this particular case it is just a 2x4, stone traced out, finishing nails tapped down so they are deeper than the stone so when you drop the stone in, if you are at a workbench you can C-clamp it down in place or you can hold on to it. So you are going to start at the heel and you are going to time it so that it goes all the way across. You go from one side to the other. You also want to make sure that your stone, I am not going to use as much pressure as I normally would because I cannot mount it on this showcase, you want to alternate from side to side to keep your bevel centered. Some people will take and do three times on one side and then three times on the other, the problem is that your backhand is never as good as your forehand and you end up cheating and you are going to end up with a blade that is offset. That is going to take it and thin down, you are going to get a thin bevel right on the edge. Once you get that V established, you can go from the coarser side to the finer side. It is the same thing; you want to alternate from one side to the other. Just keep working it until it smooths out. Usually it does not take quite as long on this side because you are just smoothing it out. As you go through the finer stones, if you just choose to do that you are just polishing. The other question is angle; how do I know what angle to use? It is a real simple guide. If you can imagine this was a big cube of butter and you know how it goes bad? You are just going to filet the top of it off. Again, there are people that do it other ways that work for them great. This is a tried, true simple way of doing it.

Different Types of Harmonicas | Harmonica 101

03:25
Watch more How to Play the Harmonica videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/457278-Different-Types-of-Harmonicas-Harmonica-101 The harmonica is used in nearly every type of music, from blues and jazz to country and rock. In this video, music teacher Marcus Milius teaches you about the different types of harmonicas. "Hi, my name is Marcus Milius. I play harmonica. I got a degree at the University of Southern California, a Bachelor's of Music, in Jazz Studies - Chromatic Harmonica. I play and teach harmonica here in New York City, and I'm happy to show you what I do. One thing that is very confusing about harmonica is that there are so many different kinds. Often times this is just the difference in names, in models, or brands. For instance, the blues harp the marine pan, the special twenty, the golden melody which are all diatonic harmonicas by the Horner company and they are really all very similar. But the main differences in harmonica will be primarily the diatonic and chromatic harmonica. There are many others as well as base harmonica, chord harmonica, echo harmonica, or tremolo harmonica. And they all have different sounds, but primarily it divides into diatonic and chromatic harmonica. Chromatic harmonica looks like this. It plays in all keys, and sounds a bit like the artists Stevie Wonder or twist talemen. Diatonic harmonicas will be set up in one key and you'll need twelve of them to play in every key and they tend to have a bluesier folkier sound, or a bluesy sound. And you'll notice that they bend very nicely, and they have really nice double stops or chords. The other harmonicas that are out there would be the base harmonica, chord harmonicas which are really big, there are also diatonic harmonicas that are tuned to minor, or other scales. There are diatonic harmonicas that have a very organ like sound and they're called echo harps or tremolo harps. So, that takes a lot of investigating to know the difference. But usually most people are going to be playing the majority of recordings that you hear will be chromatic harmonica and diatonic harmonica and they're pretty easy to hear the difference between. "

I'm a five time world champion of country dance, working with artists like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley. I really hope that you learn how to line dance and experience what it's like to move to America's music, and that's country music. So one of the most popular line dances in the last five or six years has been good times done to Alan Jackson song, "Good Times". So let's break this dance down for you. Starts with walking forward with your right foot, little touch steps. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Then we're gonna do little side points. One, two, three, four, with a turn, five, six, seven, touch eight. Then do the same thing. One, two, three, four, turn the other way, five, six, seven, eight. Now we're gonna do hitches right, with the lifting of the leg, right, little tiny hops you might say but kind of opening the leg up and going behind. One, two, three, four, five, six, then we're gonna do a little cross, seven, with a quarter of a turn, eight. So we're gonna do a little cross hop to a quarter turn hop seven, eight. Starting with your right foot, cha, cha forward with a break step, cha, cha back a break step. Then we're gonna do little side step boogies. Side step with a boogie, close. Side step with a boogie, close, and the dance starts over, forty-eight count dance. So try it one more time, by the way it's a four wall dance. So we're gonna go one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One and two, three, four, five and six, seven, eight. One and two, three, four, five and six, and do it again. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One and two, three, four, five and six, seven, eight. Wiggle, wiggle, close, wiggle, wiggle, close, and the dance starts over. So we're gonna go ahead and try this to music. Obviously we're not gonna be doing it to Alan Jackson's "Good Times". We'd like to be able to do it a little bit slower for you to be able to practice this at home, here we go. Five, six, five six, seven, go. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Cha cha cha, and back, side, close, boogie, and again. Touch, touch, touch, touch, side, side, and turn, side, side, and turn. And pitch, pitch, pitch, cross and cha, cha, cha, back it goes. Side, side, and again, touch, touch, touch, touch, point, point, and turn, point, point, and turn. And hitch, hitch, hitch, and cross and cha, cha, cha, back it goes, boogie, and close, and boogie, and close, and it starts over. There you have good times.

How to Adjust Bike Brakes | Bike Maintenance

Watch more Basic Bicycle Maintenance videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/449518-How-to-Adjust-Bike-Brakes-Bike-Maintenance Learn how to adjust bike brakes and keep your brakes working smoothly and safely from expert Jesse McDonough in this Howcast video. Hi my name is Jesse McDonough and I'm here at Spokesman Cycles in New York City right by Union Square. I'm a bicycle tour guide in New York and formerly a bike messenger and I'm here to tell you a bit about the bike. Let's talk about brake adjustments. There's a number of different reasons why your brakes can need to be adjusted. The brakes themselves can be rubbing on the rim; they might not be tight enough. But we'll start with just tightening the brakes themselves. So first you see this brake, it's in pretty good shape. You really want two finger lengths between the handlebar and the break where you squeeze, so here you got plenty of room, but on this side the break itself goes almost all the way to the handlebar, way more then two finger-lengths. So here clearly is not tight enough. We're going to try to start with a minor tightening with the barrel adjusters. So here the barrel adjusters just twist and as you pull them out of the break handle itself this will tighten the break. In this case it's probably tightening it a bit more but not necessarily enough, you still have less then two finger-lengths. So now that opening the barrel adjuster did not tighten your brakes enough what we're going to have to do is open up the break so that you can tighten your brake cable here. So you're going to take an Allen wrench and all you got to do is unscrew this just a bit so you pull the break cable tight here so that the break pads are resting along the rims, so you can hear them rubbing along the rims here and at that point you want to tighten the cable to exactly where is should be and if you notice I left the barrel adjuster opened so that way now the rim is just barely rubbing along the brake pads but as you tighten the barrel adjuster as the brake cable is already tight again it should open up just perfectly so that your brakes are the exact tension you want them but at the same time aren't going to be rubbing on the wheel, so we tighten the barrel adjuster here and see how that worked. Perfect. Got two finger-lengths and a nice tight brake.

Learn how to play strum pattern #4 in this guitar lesson from Howcast. The step-by-step instructions make it easy. Okay, fourth strum, right? So what we're going to do is take a couple of the strums we had already and we're going to put them together. The first strum we did is, baa, baa baa, baa baa. Put that aside for a second. The third strum we did is, down, down down, up, up down, down. So we're going to kind of smoosh those together and, when we do, it sounds like this. Down, down, up, up down, up down, down. The first half is sort of like that first strum and the second half is sort of like that third strum. Right? So, baa, baa baa, baa baa, da daa, da. Down, down, up, up down, up down, down. Now, this doesn't come up as much as the first strum or as much as the third strum, but it does come up. Down, down, up, up down, up down, down. Let's try to do that with some of the chords we know. We have G, E minor, C, and D. They all sound nice together. So here we go. I'm going to do that strum once on G. Down, down, up, up down, up down, down. Then I'm going to move to E minor and do the same thing. Down, down, up, up down, up down, down. Now how about C? C is the hard one to get to but hopefully you're getting used to it now. Down, down, up, up down, up down, down. And then D. Down, down, up, up down, up down, down. So, let's try to put it all together. This time I'm going to do it and I'm not going to stop. Down, up, down. Let's try to go around again. So we have G. E minor. C. And D. And then we'll finish off on G. And there you go. That could be another variation of the strums we know.

Lawrence Grecco has been practicing astrology for more than 20 years. In this video, he talks about the love and career prospects for people born under the Aquarius sign. My name is Lawrence Grecco. I live in New York City, and I'm a Life Coach and an Astrologer. I've been practicing Astrology for over 20 years. You can check out my website at zenrising.com. I'm here to talk to you today about Horoscopes. Oh, when it comes to relationships Aquarians like to impress people with how unique, unusual, unconventional and individualistic they are. So they really like to be seen as a bit unusual and sometimes even a little aloof. Aquarius really responds to relationships that offer a strong degree of friendship and camaraderie over traditional romance and feeling tied down. So this element of friendship is critical to Aquarius, more so than uh, a typical romantic kind of a relationship. So in a way Aquarius responds more to platonic love rather than romantic love. Aquarians need to feel a lot of space in a relationship. They need to feel free and that's the key to keeping them around, is to not make them feel trapped, because Aquarians are really free spirits. As far as career goes, anything that has a humanitarian element to it or has to do with groups or organizations are perfect career choices for Aquarians. So that could be anything having to do with teaching, community organizing, technology, you know humanitarian causes like social work, dealing with non-profits, all of those are perfect career choices for Aquarius.

My name is Robert Royston.I'm a 5-time world champion of country dance, working with artists like Taylor Swift, Carey Underwood, Brad Paisley. I really hope that you learn how to Hawaiian dance and experience what its like to move to America's music, and that's country music. So now that you've learned the basic two-step, were going to teach you the closed turn, or a closed basic turn. So what's gonna happen here, were gonna take our basic of quick-quick, slow-slow. Quick-quick, slow-slow. But as we step our last slow, that's my right foot, her left foot. Im gonna start to take the ladies a little more to my right. So Imma go quick-quick, slow-slow. So I kinda moved her out of the way. Im gonna do that coming right at you so you see what I'm doing. I'm gonna go quick-quick, slow-slow. So I just try to move her to my right 'cause I'm still heading forward. As that happens, as I move to the right on that slow-slow, I'm now going to start coming right up alongside of her on quick-quick. Kind of turn her to face line of dance as well. On the slow-slow, I'm going to face her. Slow-slow. So now I'm going backwards. Quick-quick, slow-slow. Quick-quick, slow-slow. Let's think of it like this, I'm gonna take the ladies and I'm gonna open 'em like I'm opening a door. I'm gonna open the door which is my right arm. But I'm gonna be the door that closes in front of the right arm. So although I'm opening the ladies, I'm closing the door. So from here we're gonna go quick-quick, slow prepare slow. Open, quick-quick, guys close, slow-slow. And going backwards quick-quick, slow-slow. Quick-quick, slow-slow. Now turning back around we do the exact opposite. I'm the first door to open and then she closes the door. So as we are going backwards, I go quick-quick slow, same thing on slow. I start to prep myself open on the second slow. She passes quick-quick, closes slow-slow. And now she's going backwards again quick-quick, slow-slow. So the first one she opens, and I close. The second one I open and she closes. So we can two-step around the floor, opening up, guys in front, stay here for a little while, have a good time. Guys open up, ladies close, and we are back to our basic. So that's the basic couple's closed turn. Have fun!"

How to Ask for a Job Application

Watch more How to Find a Job videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/424444-How-to-Ask-for-a-Job-Application A potential employer's assessment of you begins the moment you request an application. Put your best foot forward and make a great first impression by following these suggestions. Step 1: Dress professionally Present a professional appearance. Ditch the jeans and flip flops -- the point is to look as if you're ready to start work immediately. Tip Leave your phone in the car. Nothing makes you seem more unprofessional than talking on your cell phone or mindlessly texting. Step 2: Be friendly Be courteous to the front office staff. The receptionist may inform the hiring managers if you're rude or arrogant. Step 3: Ask politely Use a polite tone of voice when requesting the application. If the employees are busy, wait patiently and don't complain. Thank them after receiving the application. Step 4: Complete the application Fill out the application completely with a blue or black ink pen. Use your resume as a blueprint when filling in the spaces. Answer neatly and honestly, use correct spelling, and sign and date the application correctly. Tip Be sure to explain any gaps in your work history. If you were attending school or on leave, make note of it on the application. Step 5: Follow up Wait a week after you've submitted your application and then follow up with the company. Call and ask to speak to the hiring manager, reiterate your interest in the position, and ask for an interview. Be polite, yet determined. It pays to persevere! Did You Know? In 2009, a contest for the "Best Job in the World" -- serving 6 months as the caretaker of a tropical island in Australia -- drew more than 34,000 applications worldwide.

How to Teach the Alphabet | Reading Lessons

Watch more How to Teach Your Child to Read videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/460479-How-to-Teach-the-Alphabet-Reading-Lessons Hi. my name is Anne Glass. I'm a reading and learning specialist at a private school in New York City and I work with Kindergarteners through 3rd graders on Reading, Word Study, and Writing Skills. In addition to be a reading specialist and learning specialist, I'm also a parent and today I'm going to talk to you about topics in reading Being able to name the letters in the alphabet is one of the critical predictors of reading success. There are several different activities that you can use to teach your child the alphabet. Most people like to start teaching using the alphabet song which is a completely acceptable way to start. In fact, most children in this country know that song; could sing it in their sleep, probably. That is a perfectly fine way to start as long as you move quickly away from singing the alphabet to saying it. Because if your child can say the alphabet without relying on a melody then you can be certain that he knows it for sure. I always like to use visual aids and I think that any teaching, when it can be multisensory, is going to be much more effective. If you can have your child say the alphabet, each letter at a time while pointing to it, they're getting that tactile feedback and also the auditory feedback from pronouncing the letter name, looking at the letter and touching it with his finger. Another really helpful manipulative are these 3D letters. These are mine and they're just regular block letters that you can do out of order or move around. So they can be easily manipulated. And again it's a letter identification task. Another great teaching tool I like to use is this alphabet mat. It's got the alphabet in block letters across the top as both a reminder and also a point and say task. And then you can also go back to your 3-dimensional letters and, as a separate or additional activity, put the letters in sequence going around the arc. So up here is my "M", I place the "M" on the "M". "A" and then "B" going all the way around. Knowledge of the sequence of the alphabet is also going to be really helpful to your child going forward. Simple flash cards are also a great tool. These are my upper-case flash cards and you just go one by one and ask your child to name the letter as you go through. For more advanced alphabet learners, this is called a missing letter deck. You are prompting the child with two letters to give you the third one that's missing. So in this case it's "D", "E" and your child will say "F". Go on to the next one: "F", "G"... "H". And so on. Again, knowledge of letter names is one of the most important predictors of how quickly and easily your child will acquire early reading skills. And it's important that letter names be taught explicitly and directly, starting in preschool.

Watch more Harmonica Lessons with Blues Traveler's John Popper videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/476403-How-to-Get-Started-Harmonica-Lessons Hi, I'm John Popper, lead singer of the band Blues Traveler. I also play harmonica, and am arguably one of the best in the world. But thank God, there really never can be an actual best, but I'm damn good. I'm gonna teach you a few things about the harmonica. My best advice to play the harmonica, and I say this because it's funny, it's a lot like life: Sometimes you blow, sometimes you suck. You... just do what sounds good to your ears. Just have fun going *plays harmonica notes*. Break up the pattern, breathe in, breathe out, breathe in twice, breathe out twice, breathe out twice, breathe in once, then breath out again. Bob Dylan, who is a poetic genius, is actually a pretty simplistic harmonica player, and he taught a generation is that all you have to do is *plays harmonica notes*. Now I'm not playing a melodies right there. Bob Dylan sort of played melodies, but you can kinda just ham it up and have fun. And as you do that you start to hear things, and really pay attention to what your ears are hearing. And find melodies that you like, and gradually, you start going *plays harmonica notes*. And people around you will be driven nuts by this. They will not be able to stand what you're doing, but in your mind, you'll go "Wow, I kind... la la la, la la la." It's like humming, but with these chords. And gradually over time you will start to feel your way around the harmonica. You'll know exactly where things are. When you start to go *plays harmonica notes*. And that's just making something up off the top of your head. And you can tell as I was playing, you get a little more focused on single notes. That again is just playing smoother, and calmer, purse your lips a little more, focus the air on one whole opposed to more chords. But again don't let that bother you, don't let it distract you. There's a saying that a saxophone player told me, "If it sounds good to you, it's right." And that's the great thing about the harmonica, there's no pressure. Enjoy the sounds, you're making. And screw what other people say, at least for the beginning. Eventually if you live in rent control or on someone's couch, you'll have to listen to what they say. No problems.

What Is Phonemic Awareness? | Reading Lessons

Watch more How to Teach Your Child to Read videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/460490-What-Is-Phonemic-Awareness-Reading-Lessons Hi. my name is Anne Glass. I'm a reading and learning specialist at a private school in New York City and I work with Kindergarteners through 3rd graders on Reading, Word Study, and Writing Skills. In addition to be a reading specialist and learning specialist, I'm also a parent and today I'm going to talk to you about topics in reading. Phonological or phonemic awareness is a crucial factor which predicts how easily your child will develop early reading skills. It has to do with developing a sensitivity to the sound structure in oral language. At its most sophisticated level, it means phonemic awareness. Phonological awareness is the bigger umbrella which subsumes phonemic awareness. Phonological awareness can refer to noticing the words in a sentence, the syllables in a multi-syllabic word, and phonemic awareness is much more specific to the individual sounds in a single word. We call these individual sounds, phonemes. Phonemic awareness is something that develops over time and can, in fact, be taught and should be taught. Phonemes are the very smallest units of sound in words. For example, in the word bug, there are 3 phonemes. Bu-uh-ga. A child with sophisticated phonemic awareness would be able to substitute the bu- for ha, to get the word, hug, and she will also know that the initial sound changed, but the rest of the word didn't. When children receive explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, including rhyming games and substitution and segmenting tasks with individual phonemes, they are much more successful than their same peers who did not receive similar instruction.

I've been flying professionally for about 13 years, and now I have the pleasure of flying this Gulfstream G450 which is a lot of fun and exciting. And today I'm going to talk to you about becoming a pilot. So how do you choose a flight school? Well, there are several ways you can go about doing this. You can look online. If they actually still have phone books, you can look in there. You can maybe talk to someone you know that is a pilot. That's one thing pilots like to do, is they love to talk about flying. There's a kind of running joke; how do you know there's a pilot in the room? Don't worry. He or she will tell you. One thing you need to consider is where you live geographically. How is the weather where you live? That plays a big part especially when you're doing your primary training. One of the better places to learn is Southern California, or Arizona. Places where you're generally going to get good weather. One thing you want to do in part of your research is actually go to the school, and visit several schools if you can just like visiting a college. You're going to go ahead and talk to the students. Talk to the instructors. You want to kind of get a feel for it. Look at the conditions of the facility. Look at the aircraft. It's kind of like looking at a car. You're going to kind of have an idea if they're in good shape or bad shape. One thing you're going to do when you pick a flight school is take an intro flight, which I strongly suggest, and what they're going to do is they're probably going to pair you up with a flight instructor, and that will be your first taste of what flying is going to be like. You will most likely fly the airplane for the majority of the flight, which is a lot of fun. You also want to bring your log book, because if you want to continue you can actually log that flight for instruction. Don't feel bad. If you don't like your instructor, if you don't feel comfortable, you can always ask to switch. It's not going to hurt their feelings. It would hurt my feelings, but it won't hurt their feelings if you did that and it's really important that you feel comfortable and trust your instructor when you're going through your training.

I'm Julia Szabo, also known as a Pet Reporter, and I am the "Living with Dogs" columnist for dogster.com. I've actually written 6 books and I'm hard at work on my next one. It will be about about dogs -- that's as much as I can say right now. I love dogs and I think nobody's life is complete without one. So I'm here to tell you about a variety of different dogs breeds that might suit your lifestyle. I hope you'll adopt one soon. Pit Bulls are my favorite kind of dog. Pit Bulls are extraordinary to me, but unfortunately, a lot of the world really doesn't like Pit Bulls. This dog is the most feared and irrationally loathed and legislated against dog, literally, in the world. Tragically, the reason why so many people have been able to successfully misuse and exploit, and abuse Pit Bulls is because Pit Bulls are so loyal to their owner. If the owner is a criminal who wants to do bad things, sadly, the dog doesn't want to do those things. But because the owner wants to do it, he wants to please the owner, so he'll do it. But, if the owner is a really great person, who wants to go to hospitals and visit old people and young people who need a smile, they'll do that gladly. That's their favorite thing to do. They will do search and rescue work. They will just be your friend. They will come running with you, they will sit on the sofa with you. A lot like mutts, they are very very versatile and adaptable. In a weird way, they kind of are mutts, because they're a hybrid of Terrier and Bulldog. The complete name is American Pit Bull Terrier. I never said Pit Bulls are totally easy dogs to have. They're very very strong. They can be very strong willed. You have to be firm, but gentle. And you have to show the dog that you're the top dog, you're the boss, and so he listens to you. But you also, you don't wanna be rough with him. You don't wanna use cruel training methods. No shock collars, none of that. You just want to harness that energy for good. Believe it or not, in World War I, Pit Bulls were a symbol of American strength and patriotism. So here we have this dog with this incredible history, incredible legacy. Let's appreciate him. Let's go to our local animal shelter, which sadly, is like, as much as 90% Pit Bulls. And, you know, give him a home.

Learn how to fingerpick -- play guitar with your thumb and fingertips instead of a pick -- in this Howcast video tutorial. Ok, so let's talk about fingerpicking. This is a big big topic in guitar world. There's many guitarists that only fingerpick and they can get do a pretty amazing thing with just fingerpicking. But so, were are just gonna introduce a little bit of the ideas here, and so obviously you don't need a pick right. We are just gonna use our fingers. To, play separate notes for each chord to get some kind of rhythm's or some interesting ideas, right. So i am just using the same chords that we have been using G,E minor C and D, but now let's try to do something fancy with our fingerpicking right, i am gonna play rythm of pattern right 'm goin, dha dha dha dha, dha dha. Now how do i thing of that well, i am trying to copy the strum that i did. The first strum which was, PA, PA PA PA PA, PA, PA PA PA PA. So i can copy that exactly or you know i could change it little bit to get the same accents DHA DHA DHA DHAA, DHA DHA, DHA DHA DHA DHAA, DHA DHA, alright, that's all i am doing. Now i am gonna make G chord here right and so, my pattern is gonna be the six string with my thumb, then i am gonna use my index finger, to play the third string. Then i am gonna use my middle finger to play the second string and then, i am gonna use my ring finger to play the first string, alright. So i am going DHA DHA DHA DHA, DHA DHA right.Thumb, index, middle, ring, middle, index, right. And we could try with E minor the same exact pattern. Right, how about with C, now the thing with C is, i have to change the pattern of it a little bit right. I am just bringing my thumb down to the fifth string that's where C is, that's why i am doing that, right. So C is in on the fifth string up the six, so, that's why i have to do there. The rest are the same right, and then for D same thing i have to move my thumb. Because now D, the note D is on the forth string, but everything else stays the same, right, so if i put it all together what do i have. I have G right, remember our rhythm, then i am going to E minor. Then C, then D, so one more time we have G, E minor, C, D. So that's how you get started with fingerpicking.

I'm a five time world champion of country dance working with artists like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley. I really hope that you'd learn how to line dance and experience what it's like to move to America's music, and that's country music. As part of our country line dance series, we wanted to arm you with a little knowledge of country couples dancing. Chances are, you are going to go to your country bar, you going to go to your country line dance club and in between line dances, there're gonna have some couple dancing and the most popular couple dance done in United State is of course the two step. So we would like to show you a good basic version of the two step, there's a lot of regional variations but just a good basic version of country two step. We're going to start off first with the close position hold. My right hand is going to go under Nicola's left arm, so I'm going to be kind of cutting the upper part of her shoulder blade, not down here, upper part of the shoulder blade. Nicola is going to take her left arm and put it on top of my right, that's gonna kind of be just below the shoulder and just above the bicep ladies. So below the shoulder above the bicep. Then my left hand is gonna hold her right hand just very comfortable at about shoulder level, nothing too overly done or pronounced yeah. Once again, there are variations to this that you will see, this is just a good basic couple dance hold. Now I'm going to start with my left, she's going to start with her right. Two steps is made up of a series of quicks and slows, a quick is one step for one beat, a slow is one step for two beats. So if you were to do quicks, it would be quick quick quick quick quick quick quick quick. If you were to do slows, it would be slow slow slow slow right. By count of that, quicks would be 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, slows would be 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, so it's one step for two beats. The timing for two step is quick quick slow slow, 2 quicks 2 slows and a walking pattern. I start left she starts right, she goes back I go forward and we go quick quick slow slow, right, 2 fast 2 slow steps. We'll do that again. We're going to go quick quick slow slow and you'll just continue that pattern, quick quick slow slow, quick quick just like you're walking, quick quick slow slow, quick quick slow slow and quick quick slow slow. The thing about two step you should also know is the trivial line of dance. Line of dance kind of in every bar you will ever go into or even ballroom dancing, line of dance is counterclockwise, so you're always gonna move counterclockwise. And some floor etiquette, if there's a two step that's playing and some people are line dancing to it, you can two step around the outside. Think of it like a race track, the faster you go, the more of the outside of the floor you are. The slower you're going, the more to the inside of the floor until you get to the middle which is for line dancing. So we're going to do a little two step music for you and you can follow along at home. 5 6 7 go, quick quick slow slow, quick quick slow slow, quick quick slow slow, quick quick slow slow, quick quick slow slow. So grab your favorite lady, get off the bars cause this is two step.

I'm a five time world champion of country dance working with artists like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley. I really hope that you learn how to line dance and experience what it's like to move to America's music that's country music. So the dance we're gonna talk about now is called the cowboy boogie. It's a very popular dance done throughout the United States. One of the great things about the cowboy boogie is that it's done to a lot of different songs so you're gonna get it to different songs, to different speeds depending on where you live and what your bar likes to play. So we're gonna start with just the basic vine to the right. We're gonna go side, behind, side, with a little hitch which is the knee up, hitch. Then go right back to the other direction: side, behind, side, hitch-with a forward hitch-step, hitch, and another one, step, hitch. Now that's gonna back you up. Back, back, back, and one more hitch. Hitch. Let's try that from the top again. So we're gonna vine right then left, hitch forward and then come back with a hitch. So starting with the right. Step, behind, step, hitch! Side, behind, side, hitch! And forward, hitch, and forward, back, back, back, back, back, hitch. From there we're gonna step down and we're gonna boogie forward with twice our hips, boogie twice with the hips. Boogie back with the hips. Boogie forward, back, right? So it's gonna go twice forward, twice back, forward, back. Yeah. From here as we come forward down to our left leg we're gonna do another hitch with our right leg, making a quarter of a turn, hitch. In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do the belly dance move known as a reverse vertical figure 8. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. Now let's try the Reverse Figure 8 going down-to-up. So keeping the knees bent, tailbone down, chest up. We're going to drop the hip down, reach hip out, lift it up and you're going to lift the heel off the floor, contract the hip back in and release it back down to neutral. Bend in your left knee a little bit more to drop the hip down, sliding out, lifting the heel up to bring the hip up, and you're also gonna feel a contraction in your obliques and coming back to center, drop in to neutral. Down, up, up, heel up, In. Down, up, in, release. You're going to feel a shift of weight from foot to foot. As you reach all the way out the highest point here is when you're going to switch your attention to the other side to bring the heel down and up. So it's a continuous motion going from one side to the other. Let's try that with music [music starts]. Keep the chest hovering up and a little bit faster. And that's how you do a down-to-up figure 8.

How to Celebrate Rosh Hashanah

Watch more How to Celebrate Jewish Holidays videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/217195-How-to-Celebrate-Rosh-Hashanah Rosh Hashanah, known as the Jewish New Year, begins the Jewish high holidays, a time of reflection, charity, and new beginnings in the Hebrew calendar. Here's how to celebrate it. Step 1: Start the celebration Clear your schedule. Rosh Hashanah falls on a different day each year, usually in September. The 2-day celebration starts at sundown the evening before the first full day. Step 2: Have a family dinner Start the holiday with a family dinner on the first night. The meal may include gefilte fish, matzo ball soup, roast chicken or brisket, carrot tzimmes, and pomegranate. Greet everyone by saying L'Shanah Tovah! which in Hebrew means "For a good year!" Step 3: Recite blessings Light the candles and say the ritual blessings over them. Recite the kiddush, or blessing over the wine, and the blessing over the challah bread. Pass the challah around for everyone to break off a piece, and dip the bread and slices of apples in honey in the hope that the new year will be sweet. Tip The circular shape of the challah bread represents the cycle of the year and of life. Step 4: Go to temple Go to temple. Most synagogues have an all-day program that includes songs, prayers, readings, sermons, and the story of the binding of Isaac from the Torah. Tip One of the holiday's mitzvot, or commandments, is to hear the "ram's horn or shofar":http://www.howcast.com/videos/237556-How-To-Blow-a-Shofar, which serves as a call to examine your behavior. Step 5: Cast off your sins After services, follow the rabbi to a flowing body of water for a ritual known as Tashlich. Some Tashlich ceremonies include tossing bits of bread into the water to symbolize letting go of your sins. Step 6: Enjoy your year Reflect on the past year and the year to come. Take time to remember the less fortunate, and include charitable giving in your Rosh Hashanah celebrations. Did You Know? In the Bible, Rosh Hashanah is referred to as Yom Ha-Zikkaron, day of remembrance, or Yom Teruah, day of shofar blowing.

How to Play a Chromatic Harmonica | Harmonica 101

02:12
Watch more How to Play the Harmonica videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/457279-How-to-Play-a-Chromatic-Harmonica-Harmonica-101 The harmonica is used in nearly every type of music, from blues and jazz to country and rock. In this video, music teacher Marcus Milius teaches you how to play a chromatic harmonica. "Hi, my name is Marcus Milius. I play harmonica. I got a degree at the University of Southern California, a Bachelor's of Music, in Jazz Studies - Chromatic Harmonica. I play and teach harmonica here in New York City, and I'm happy to show you what I do. Alright, so playing the chromatic harmonica, you'll first need a chromatic harmonica, rather than a diatonic harmonica. The technique is pretty basic. Once you get a single note on a diatonic, the same technique applies to the chromatic. The only difference is, you have a slide on the chromatic harmonica, to get you the notes that you ordinarily bend or over-blow to on the diatonic. That makes it a lot easier to hit notes that aren't in the key, you simply press the button and it sharps any note up a half step. So, if you have a C, it sharps up to a C sharp, D, up to a D sharp. So all notes will sharp up a half step when you press the slide. The thing that does make that difficult is playing in C is very easy but playing in other keys means you have to locate the correct notes and know when not to press in the slide and when to press in the slide. So, each scale, each key is very different. So, here would be a major sound in several keys. So, each key is a different pattern that you have to learn. You can do some bending on the chromatic, it doesn't sound quite as bluesy as when you do it on the diatonic."

First position all we want to do is we wanna have our stick in out in front of us so we can utilize its length to play proper defense as refrain our guy. what would do is we can need a poke, lift or slap. Nick here's gonna help me demonstrate a proper approach along with those three checks. As I approach nick I want to come in under control with my feet under knee. Now I want to run out because it makes easier for him to run right pass nick. So as I approached out chopped my feet and breakdown to good athletic position. In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do large hip circles. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So now we're going to try a large, exterior hip circle. Step out right underneath your hip bones, so nice and wide, keep the knees slightly bent, chest up, arms out, lower abs engaged. We're gonna shift the weight all the way out to the right, and again all the way out to the left. Once again, all the way out to the right, and all the way out to the left. Keeping the knees slightly bent, and once again do not let yourself bounce up and down in space. And slide out, and out, and out, and out. Now turning sideways, keeping the knees slightly bent you're gonna push your hips all the way forward, and all the way back, and as you push forward make sure that your chest does not lift so you're not pointing chest up, but you're actually staying neutral, the same way you normally are when you're standing. And when you shift all the way back, as well, you wanna keep the neutral lift. As you push front, you're going to feel your upper abs get engaged, nice and tight. And as you push back, you want to make sure that you're dropping the tailbone down, engaging the lower abs, so you're not arching your back, you do not want to release it back, keep it neutral. And sliding forward, and back, and forward, and back. Now we're going to combine those into a hip circle. Pushing out to the right, pushing forward, pushing over to the left, and back. Out to the right, forward where you should feel your upper abs, left, and back and you should feel the contraction in your lower abs. When you connect them you create a hip circle. Now this hip circle is traveling outside of your normal alignment so when you're standing neutral, this is your normal alignment, but when you push into the large hip circle you're going to come outside of that. Let's try that with music. Let's try going in the other direction. So that's how you do a basic, large, exterior hip circle.

I'm here today with Nick Schmidt who's one of our great regional directors. Please visit our website www.laxcamps.com. Game play consists of ten players per team on the field at a time. That's one goalie, three defense men, three mid fielders, three attackers per team. Defense men prefer to use long poles which are 72 inches long, and each team is limited to four poles on the field at a time. All the other players on the field will use a short stick, which is between 40 and 43 inches long. The game is played with a small, galvanized rubber ball. It's important that you make sure that your stick is legal. Most common penalties result from illegal sticks. To have a legal stick the ball must fall freely out of your stick when turned at a slight angle. The depth of the pocket is also another important part. To make sure you have a legal stick you should be able to not see any free space between the ball and the bottom of the side wall. Also, your stick must be at least 6 and a 1/2 inches wide. And finally, the out of bounds rules are that if one team throws an errant pass or player with possession of the ball runs out of bounds, the possession is awarded to the other team. The only time this is not the case is when the team on offense takes the shot that either bounces off the goalie, a post, or misses the goal. The ball is then awarded to the nearest player to the ball when it goes out of bounds. Those are the basic rules of lacrosse.

For more, visit me on twitter @downtownshallon or be sure to check out my website shallononline.com. Ladies, one of the most valuable skills you can learn is how to flirt. And I am here to teach you. Flirting, contrary to what you might believe, is very, very subtle. It isn't something that's grandiose or loud or obnoxious. It's something that's quiet and demure and very charming. If you want to flirt with a boy, you don't have to go over the top. You have to do just a few simple things. Number one, make eye contact. This can be actually kind of scary, cause it's nerve wracking to look the boy you like in the eye. But if you can do it for just, like, a second or two, literally that's all it takes. Look away, smile, and look back. You will blow him away. Number two, smile. I say this all the time, but it's so true. Smile as often as you can. I'm not saying you shouldn't have emotions, or show it when you're upset, but if you bring up a conversation with him, try to keep it something positive. so you're smiling and you're face is glowing, you guys are laughing together. Cause, if you laugh together, you're bonding. He doesn't even realize it, but you are. Also girls, it's important to stroke a man's ego. So, if you notice he's really good at something, don't be afraid to tell him. Be like, "Hey, you've got a really good jump shot, that's pretty good, maybe you could teach me sometime." Easy, complimentary, and it opens the door for you guys to hang out or talk more. How simple is that? And if he acts weird, whatever, he's got weird hair anyway. You don't need to date him. Also ladies, it's important to remember that you are very mature at this age, but boys, not so much. This, unfortunately, might be a theme throughout your life. Girls are always going to be more mature and more thoughtful than boys are. So, cut them some slack. If a guy still treats you like you guys are 10 years old and just buddies on the playground, he might just not be that mature yet. Don't take it personally. He will get there, and by the time he does, you'll be a lean, mean, flirting machine.

Never use this as a primary means of absorbing information, but always as a preparation for gathering key points. Tip Machines that train the eyes to scan and select meaning and context rather than picking out the smaller letter arrangements help speed reading and deepen concentration. Step 2: Read word groups Read word groups rather than single words by developing the habit of snapping the eyes across or down the page. Step 3: Categorize and associate Categorize and associate information you read with other knowledge in your life, to establish familiar cues for retrieving facts. Step 4: Take notes Take succinct notes on significant facts and information when reading books or studying for exams. Say the words aloud to hear yourself and help commit it to memory. Repeat the process. Step 5: Study with purpose Study with purpose and confidence, interacting with the material. Compare and contrast what is being memorized and paraphrase for simplified understanding. Grill yourself with questions to reinforce the lesson. Tip Avoid lazily highlighting everything. How to Understand Cancer Horoscope Sign | Zodiac Signs

02:08
Watch more How to Understand Zodiac Signs videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/457732-How-to-Understand-Cancer-Horoscope-Sign-Zodiac-Signs Love to read your horoscope? Lawrence Grecco has been practicing astrology for more than 20 years. In this video, he talks about the personality traits common in people born under the Cancer sign. My name is Lawrence Grecco. I live in New York City, and I'm a Life Coach and an Astrologer. I've been practicing Astrology for over 20 years. You can check out my website at zenrising.com. I'm here to talk to you today about Horoscopes. So the fourth sign of the Zodiac is Cancer, so if you were born between June 21st and July 22nd, then you're a Cancer. Cancer is represented by the crab, and what's really interesting about the symbol of the crab is that crabs can run and walk sideways, so they have this very indirect way of traveling about, and like the crab, Cancers have a very indirect way of approaching life. And the crab has a shell and will often withdraw into its shell if it feels at all threatened or unsafe. So just the way a crab will withdraw into its shell, so will a Cancer person withdraw if it feels at all unsafe or threatened. Cancer is ruled by the moon, which has a very clear and direct impact on the tides. So above all, Cancers are very focused on seeking security through things that are familiar and comfortable, so this could be through family, through friends, through their relationship. Issues of home are very important to Cancer, as are issues of the past and history. Anything that has to do with time and history are very much emphasized for Cancer. So Cancer people are very, very sensitive people, they're very domestic, they often like to cook, or food figures in prominently with Cancer people, and they can be the most nurturing sign of the Zodiac. Some of the potentially negative traits of Cancer is that they can tend to be passive-aggressive, indirect, overly emotional, overly sensitive, and even whiny sometimes. Some famous Cancers include George W. Bush, Princess Diana, Robin Williams and Tom Hanks.

Step 1: Pick the right breed Pick the right breed of dog. German shepherds and Doberman Pinschers make the best guard dogs due to their protective nature. However, even gentle dogs can be good guard dogs with the proper training. Tip Remember that guard dogs are a form of security, like an alarm, but they are not attack dogs. Step 2: Socialize your dog Socialize your dog before beginning guard-dog training. Socialization is the process of getting the dog used to loud noises, such as traffic and thunderstorms, and getting them to recognize family and friends. This way the dog will be able to discern between normal and threatening scenarios. Step 3: Begin basic obedience training Give your dog basic obedience training. Going to classes and teaching your dog to follow basic obedience rules will establish you as the leader. Tip Start your dog's training at an early age. This gives the dog a better chance to learn new things before developing bad habits. Step 4: Practice positive reinforcement Practice positive reinforcement. Reward your dog with treats for good behavior and ignore them completely when they behave badly. Step 5: Identify property boundaries Identify property boundaries to your dog during their guard-dog training. Train your dog to recognize your property as their territory. Use positive reinforcement to drive this point. Step 6: Control barking Control your dog's barking. Using positive reinforcement, train your dog to bark when someone comes on to your property and to stop barking when given a specific command. Step 7: Be consistent Be consistent. The most important thing to remember when training your dog is to be consistent with your commands and the way you say them. This will help your dog understand you better, and will improve the results of their guard-dog training. Did You Know? Dogs have been man's best friend for an estimated 15,000 years, when Eurasian gray wolves were domesticated.

Watch more Harmonica Lessons with Blues Traveler's John Popper videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/476401-How-to-Play-the-Blues-Harmonica-Lessons Learn how to play the blues on a harmonica with this Howcast harmonica lesson taught by John Popper of Blues Traveler. Hi, I'm John Popper, lead singer of the band Blues Traveler. I also play harmonica, and am arguably one of the best in the world. But thank God, there really never can be an actual best, but I'm damn good. I'm gonna teach you a few things about the harmonica. There's several positions on a harmonica. Again, we'll start with a C harmonica, 'cause it's easiest to remember the transpositions. If I'm using the tonic, la la la la, la la la. La la la la la la la. That's melody, right? Tonic means "la" in that song I'm singing, the bottom, what feels like the bottom is the tonic. "La" becomes what they call the one. And that means 2 is, la la, 1, 2. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. So there's 8 notes to a scale. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. This is just basic code for music. So if I'm playing in a major scale, in a C harmonica, I'm gonna use as C as a tonic, which sounds very major-y, and like a folk instrument. Now, if I wanna play blues, I'm gonna use the G as the tonic, so I can get that flat 7. And that's what blues harmonica players do, largely. And again, these are all relative, as far as, it's not the only thing blue players do, and it's not the only think folk players do. 'Cause you can be a folk player, and still play that second position. You can be a blues player, and still play that first position. There's even a third position, where, if you're playing with a C harmonica, you can be using a D Minor, and that means. And that's a very minor-y sounding thing. And there's even other positions you can do. Like, I always liked the Phrygian Mode. See, each mode or scale, the first, the major one, da da da da da da da da, is called an Ionian Mode. And the one with that bluesy one is called a Mixolydian Mode. And these are all named after islands in Greece, where the various tribes played songs that favored these modes or melodies. And that's really all this is, is just, different lingo for different scales that support different chords. So a Phrygian Mode would be. Now that's playing in a C harmonica, I'm playing in the Key of E. And then there's one for if I really want to be super minor-y. I use a C harmonica to play an A. You have to be really sensitive to use that one. The most popular tends to be the second position or first position, if you're a folk guy or a blues guy. Or a polka guy, I guess, for the first position. But don't let any of these things throw you. Again, if it sounds good, it's right. And these are just ways to communicate with other musicians. You wanna know what key the other guys is playing in, so you can pick the right harmonica to use.

Step 1: Get a container Find a large plastic container for your upside down plant. Ready-made planters are sold at gardening stores, but you can make your own out of almost any kind of large plastic cylinder. Tip Reduce, reuse, and recycle by using a 2-liter soda bottle, milk jug, plastic bucket, hanging plant basket, or even a heavy duty trash bag for your planter. Step 2: Cut a hole Use a drill, hacksaw, or sharp knife to cut a half-inch hole in the bottom of your container. Tip A soda bottle or milk jug already has a hole, but you need to saw off the bottom of it to create an opening at the other end. Step 3: Make holes for hanging line Cut small holes just under the lip of the large open end where you can attach your hanging line. If your container is a bucket, it already comes with a convenient hanging handle. Step 4: Attach hanging line Thread hanging line made of a strong material such as twine, bendable steel, or leather through the container. Step 5: Attach a hook Find a beam or line in a sunny location where you can grow your plant and attach a sturdy metal hook on the underside of it. Now you've done the setup and are ready to plant. Step 6: Insert plant Lower your plant into the bottle upside down and gently pull the green stem and leaves through the hole. Tip Choose a plant variety that yields small vegetables at intervals, since larger varieties and plants that ripen all at once can put too much strain on the stem. Tomato, cucumber, and pepper plants are popular choices. Step 7: Add soil Spread out the roots in the upper part of the container so they have room to grow. Add soil to the container until it covers the root system. Tip Mix some compost into the soil to help the plant grow. You can also place strips of newspaper around the root ball to keep it upright and prevent soil from washing out through the hole. Step 8: Make topper plant Plant a small herb or flowering plant on top of the soil above the vegetable roots. Doing so not only helps retain moisture in the soil, but also maximizes space and adds a pleasing visual effect. Tip If you don't add a topper plant, cover the container with cheesecloth, mulch, or another breathable lid to prevent rapid evaporation. Step 9: Hang and water Hang your upside down plant from its hook and water it daily through the top opening until it literally bears the fruit of your efforts. Did You Know? Asparagus is the United States' most popular garden perennial.
