Today I'm joined by Katie Chrest Erbe, Assistant Coach at Columbia and Kaitlyn Jackson with GameDay Lacrosse. Today we're going to talk about how to catch. Most coaches will tell you that catching and throwing are the heart of the game of Lacrosse. In order to be a successful player you have to understand how to  control the ball through proper catching and throwing. One of the most important aspects when learning how to catch in the game of lacrosse is making sure that you have what we consider soft hands. You'll hear a lot of coaches talk about, players do not want to put a tight grip on the shaft of their stick because that will make catching a little more difficult. As you'll see with Katie and Katilyn passing the ball back and forth, they position their hands at different areas on the shaft. Your hands should never always be at 2 certain points. To be a complete player with your catching, you want to make sure you have a full range of motion across the length of the shaft. You'll see that both Katie and Kaitlyn are giving each other a target, asking for the ball in front of their body and bringing it back behind for them to be prepared to throw. They are not standing stiff, they are not gripping their stick tightly. If they were to do that the ball would most likely bounce of the top of the stick head. A few keys to catching, make sure that your hands are soft, you're not giving a very tight grip on your stick making it rigid, give your teammate a target and give with the ball as it's coming into your stick, so that you avoid having it bounce off of the top of the stick head.

Claymation Basics | Stop Motion

Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514869-Claymation-Basics-Stop-Motion So you can create stop motion animated films with so many different types of materials. I think one of the most effective materials to use, of course, would be clay. And clay is a great great material for stop motion animation because it's so easy to change the form of clay. When animating with clay, you would apply the same rules you apply when you are animating with found objects. You would do things in small increments. So we have a ball of green clay here, set up with our camera pointing down to it. We're lighting with this little clip light. We have our computer, with which we'll take pictures of the clay by hitting the space bar. And we'll move our clay a little bit. We could also, not just move it, we can change it. I'm moving the clay a little and I'm taking my thumbs and pressing it a little bit flat. Taking a picture. Move it. Flatten it. Take a picture. It's great to take your time with your animation. Don't rush through. There's that sound. I'm going to flatten it out a bit more. Take a picture. Maybe we'll start to flatten it and split it as well. We're going to go in here. I'm just using my fingers to press into the clay and make these changes. I'm going to go ahead and start to really separate it. Take a picture. This is something that you want to happen gradually, in small increments, not necessarily all at once. A little more. Picture. Move it a little more. I'm pinching and breaking the clay in the middle just a bit. And there's a moment right before it's going to snap. And now these separate pieces will fly out of the frame. Something you will notice is that the clay will leave behind a little bit of clay sometimes, or a little bit of oil. And that's OK. If you prefer not to have that oil left behind, you can animate on a wipeable surface, a dry erase board, a piece of plexiglass. In this case, you will see a little of that oil because we are animating on paper. Now that those pieces have gone completely out of the frame, I'll take a few more pictures, and we'll play our film. And that's just a very very basic approach to animating with clay. There's a lot you can do with the clay. That's just a start.

I'm Mike Patrick and this is how to make a cigarette disappear. I'll show you two different ways of doing this. One, is to take the cigarette. Make it vanish and reappear like this. And the other one is to take the cigarette burn on the floor and you can immediately get it back like this. These are two slightly different techniques. What you would do is you have the cigarette and you're going to essentially do this kind of action as you take it into your other hand. As soon as this hand screens the cigarette, you allow the thumb, the middle finger is going to pull in and it pivots around the thumb like this. When this goes like this, disappears and in the continuing action you can bring this hand to your mouth and make the cigarette reappear. You can do this while it's lit to makes it a little bit more impressive. Make sure you don't hit your head and burn yourself. Cigarettes are extremely hot. Disappears. Reappears like this. The other way, and when you're throwing on the floor, and you don't actually throw the cigarette on the floor, what you do is you hold it as if you're holding a cigarette normally in between the index and middle fingers. You come in, and almost like a thimble vanish, you clip the tail end of the cigarette with your thumb and you open your hand like this. But you do it as you throw the cigarette. So, you apparently throw it on the ground. Step. Then you can immediately simply reach back in and reclip the cigarette and make it reappear. This is very easy to do while it's lit and makes the most sense because why else would you step a cigarette out. You do this, throw on the ground, stomp on it, reproduce, and continue on with whatever you were doing. Those are two ways of making a cigarette vanish and reappear.

I'm joined by Katie Chrest Erbe at Assistant Lacrosse Coach Columbia and Kaitlyn Jackson with GameDay Lacrosse. Today we're going to talk about some of the building blocks of a motion offense. So, some of the most important things that you need to remember as an attacker is that you've got to keep the defense on your toes you want to make sure that their heads are spinning so that you can do what you want. So, one of the great ways to keep a defender on their toes is to make sure that you are moving the ball quickly. If Kaitlyn and Katie are on the same team, they're moving the ball around the perimeter of the 8 meter or the 12 meter, they want to make sure that they're not just lobbing it back and forth but that they're really putting some pace on it so the defenders have to keep their heads moving. Another important component of a motion offense is to make sure that you're creating space for your teammates to be able to work. One good example of this, if Katies's passing the ball to Kaitlyn she doesn't want to just stand where she is. Her defender can easily help shut Kaitlyn down. Once Katie passes the ball to Kaitlyn she wants to get out of this space so cutting doen and away from the ball is a good option. Another good way to create space for your teammate is passing the ball up top and cutting through the center of the 8, taking your defender out of the play. Again if Kaitlyn is just to pass the ball to Katie and stand where she is, that doesn't give Katie any space to challenge, and it also allows Kaitlyn's defender to help stop Katie. One thing that Katie wants to do once she receives the ball is read the timing of Kaitlyn's cut. As soon as Katie receives the ball, she wants to go full speed to goal making a dodge around her defender and finishing off with a shot. One reason that it's really important that Kaitlyn and Katie know what each other are doing so they don't want to make their moves at the same exact time. If Kaitlyn passes the balls to Katie and Katie is dodging while Kaitlyn is cutting, it would be very easy for Katie's defender to pick up Katie is well. So, Katie needs to wait for Kaitlyn to get past her then make her dodge and go hard to goal. OK. So, always being a threat with the ball moving it quickly around the perimeter, not letting the defender's relax and feel as though they know exactly what's going on. Making sure that you're clearing space for your teammates who are challenging to goal and also reading when is the right time to dodge into the space that they've given you. Those are some of the key components of a motion offense.

How to Animate Water | Stop Motion

03:44
Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514863-How-to-Animate-Water-Stop-Motion How to animate water is a great question, and there are so many different ways to animate water in stop motion animation. One way that I like to do it is with clear hair gel. Now this can get a little bit messy, of course. Keep this in mind if you're trying it. But the hair gel has a great water look, obviously, when it's transparent. And what we're going to do is lay the hair gel over this little riverbed that we've created. The riverbed has been made with a brownish clay, and then we've stuck a bunch of actual rocks and shells into the clay to have that sort of bottom of the riverbed look. We have two pieces of cardboard, and they've been covered with green clay, and we've textured them to look like grass. So these are the banks of our river. Our hope is to spoon some of the hair gel right into the river and then just manipulate it slightly, animate it slightly as we're picking up our images from the camera directly above the river. So here we go. I think it's best to spoon the gel in, and you want to avoid getting the gel on the grass. You only want the gel over the rocks in the riverbed. We've raised the banks on the cardboard on either side, so if the gel does start to run, which it will as it warms up, it doesn't run onto the grass but runs underneath it. Hair gel is gross. Just going to say that. Now it's time-sensitive. Again, as the gel starts to heat under the light, it will liquefy and start to melt out. We want to use it just as it is right now in this moment. So we'll take a picture, and I may use the spoon instead of my hand to manipulate the gel. I want to do this in a very even fashion. I'm going to drag through, just moving that gel slightly. And I'm going to take a picture. I'm going to go back through. I'm going to just drag the spoon along the surface of the gel and take a picture. Dragging it along the surface. Things to keep in mind, the water in a river like this would be flowing in one direction only, most likely. So keep your movement's going in one direction, like the band. It's actually very therapeutic and soothing to animate hair gel. So there you have it. Now I can go back through here and cut and paste our frames so that we get a nice, longer animation of the river flowing. We'll play it, and there it is. Very, very cool. There you have it. This is one way, a fairly complicated, maybe sticky way, of animating water. Try this at home. Try some new water animation techniques. Let your creativity flow.

Today, I'm gonna give you my top three tips on dodging.  First of all, make some a dodger very effective is that being never plan a dodge.  They make one heard move, they read what their defender does and they react of what their defender does.  So if I were gonna dodge, I maybe make one heard move this way, if Liz bites, I'm gonna go the other way, okay?  If she doesn't go for it, then I'm just really gonna go around her.   So you never plan out your  dodge, you really just wanna react to what she gives you.  The second thing I wanna make sure to do is leave myself enough space.  If I end up too far on top of Liz and I make this move, then I have to come back around Liz in order to get by her, making me less efficient. So I wanna allow some space, maybe like a sticks length.  So if Liz put her sticks out in front of me, this is where I wanna start my move to see what she does.  Then I'm gonna react, have enough space to react to get around her.  Always moving my feet forward.  I never wanna move latterly, it'll give the defender chance to step back in front of me.  Finally, what will make a dodge very effective is their explosion out of their dodge.   So they wanna leave the dodge as first as they can.  So once I make this move on Liz, I get her to bite, I get by her, this next step needs to be as explosive as possible to add separation from Liz so that she can't get back in front of me.  So those are the top three things that make a dodger effective, reacting off of your defender, allowing enough space, and really exploding out of that dodge.

Jam-Clearing Drills for an Automatic Gun | Gun Guide

02:17
Watch more Gun Guide videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515076-JamClearing-Drills-for-an-Automatic-Gun-Gun-Guide Today, we're going to talk about some common jams in semi-automatic pistols and how to clear them. The first jam clearing drill we want to talk about is you pull your weapon out, you go to fire and nothing happens. Okay, the first thing you do, tap the bottom of the magazine to make sure that the magazine is properly seated and rack the gun and then fire. That right there is going to clear most of your common jams. The second common jam you're going to find with a gun is which is called a double feed. With a double feed you have a round in the chamber and another round is attempting to be loaded into the chamber behind it causing the two bullets to push up against each other and jam the gun. So, you're shooting, all of a sudden nothing happens, you're going to look at your gun. When you look down, you're going to see the double feed. You'll see the two bullets behind each other, so you're going to remove your magazine. When you pull your magazine out, you're going to work the slide a couple times to make sure you clear any rounds that are left in the chamber. You're going to reinsert your magazine and rack it again. From there the gun fires as normal, locks back showing the gun is empty. The third common jam you're going to come across is which is called a stove pipe. A stove pipe is when you have either a spent casing or a live round which is half ejected from the ejection port, sticking out of the gun like this and it's preventing the slide from going forward. So, once again, you're firing, the gun stops firing, you're going to look and see what you have. You look at the gun, you see the stove pipe and you're going to remove the magazine and work the gun several times making sure to clear the jam. Put your magazine source back in and rack the gun and continue firing. That is how to clear the three most common jams you're going to come across while firing.

5 Shooting Tips | Gun Guide

03:16
Watch more Gun Guide videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515074-5-Shooting-Tips-Gun-Guide Today we're going to talk about some basic shooting fundamentals. First thing, when shooting, you want to think about is your position. With your position is your stance. You either have your isosceles stance like this or you're taking your weaver stance like such. From there you want to talk about aiming. Aiming is broken down into two parts. You have sight alignment and picture alignment. With sight alignment, you're going to line up your sights, you have your rear sights and your front sights. Your rear sights have two posts spread apart, and your front sight is a single post. What you want to do is you're going to look down the gun and you're going to line up the rear sights with the front sights so you see the front sight post lined up in the middle of the two rear sights. And you're going to make sure they're even and level with even space on either side of them so when you bring the gun up to your target, they look like one straight line across. Which is going to take you into picture alignment. You want to underline your target with the line that your sight's created and you're going to focus on your front sight. This is very important. Your rear sight and your target are going to be blurry in your vision and all of your focus is going to be concentrated on your front sight. So when you aim, the front sight comes into view, you've aligned your picture. The next thing from there, we're going to talk about your breathing control. Breathing is very important when you're shooting. As you line up your sight, right before you pull the trigger you want to take a nice breath, exhale just a little bit, and then stop. You stop breathing just a moment, you fire your shot, and then you continue your breathing. The longer you hold the breath, the more tremors you're going to have and your hands will shake and your aiming will be off. The next thing we're going to talk about is trigger control. Trigger control is very important. Where you place your finger on the trigger will definitely affect your shot. You want to touch the trigger halfway between the tip of your finger and the first line. So right in the middle, you're going to put that part on the trigger. If your finger is too far one way or the other, you're going to shoot left or right. So you want to be right in the middle and have a good firm grip on the gun. If you hold the gun loosely, your shot will be off or your gun could actually jam. So you want to get a nice firm grip, line up your finger on the trigger, and squeeze your trigger. Another thing to remember with trigger pull is you want to, once you're lined up with your finger on the trigger, you want to pull the trigger nice and smooth and steady. You don't want to anticipate the shot. You want to create a surprise break. So your body is not anticipating the shot. When you anticipate, you're going to tense up, you're going to push forward causing your shots to go low. From there we want to talk about follow through. With follow through you want to make sure to do every one of these fundamentals every time, step by step, for every shot insuring the most accurate shots possible. And those are the five basic fundamentals of accurate shooting.

How to Introduce a New Cat to Your Cat | Cat Care

That's a great idea, but just keep in mind that you to make sure that it goes as smoothly as possible. At this point, research shows that the only thing that helps us know whether cat are going to have troubles together, is how it goes during their first meeting, so it's really important to try to keep that first meeting as calm and quiet as possible. We want to make it fun and enjoyable and we really want to decrease the likelihood of seeing any hissing, swatting, growling, and certainly full on attacks. So, first thing you want to do if you're thinking about bringing a new cat home is find out, if you can, whether your current cat even likes other cats. Remember, sometimes an only cat is a happy cat. So if your cat has a history of inter-cat aggression, or aggression towards other cats, while it might be nice for you to have another cat, it might actually be long-term torture for your resident cat. Now, if you're not sure or if you're pretty certain that your cat likes other cats in general, when you go to adopt another cat look for one that has experience at socialization with cats in its past as well. That way you have a good chance that the cats are going to get along. While you can sometimes just dump cats together and everything will be fine, it's really important to try to go slowly at first so that we can try to set up for success. Make sure that your new cat has its own safe zone. This can be a small room like a bathroom, or even a walk-in closet. It should have its own litter box, food and water, as well as toys and resting spots. Then, when you're ready to introduce the cats to each other, you can actually separate them as far as you possibly can and play games with them or give them treats at the same time. Doing that well generally requires two people, but you can do it with only one person if you leave one cat in a carrier or on a leash. If you go ahead and do it that way, then you'll find that your cats can get more comfortable with each other gradually. And hopefully if you introduce them at a distance, you'll find that they're not having any aggressive behaviors at all. Now, if you decide that your cats are doing well together, I still recommend that you don't leave them out alone together for at least the first two weeks, because it takes a long time for cats to get comfortable with each other. In fact, in feral cat colonies it can take up to nine months for cats to be welcomed into the colony and during that time they're really on the periphery and they may be the subject of lots of attacks. So, it's important to remember that this type of process can take some time, but in the end they may get along if you do things gradually. And that is how you can help your cat get along with a new cat.

How to Care for an Elderly Cat | Cat Care

The first of those is to make sure that your cat goes to the veterinarian more frequently. Many veterinarians recommend that cats come in at least every 6 months once they hit the age 7. And this is because there are important diseases that happen with age, that start to happen around that age, that can be dealt with sooner rather than later, in order to prevent an early demise. Things like hyperthyroidism, or elevated thyroid levels, kidney problems, and even some types of cancer can be caught early, and when caught early we have a better chance of a good quality of life for a longer time. If you have an elderly cat at home, major things that you want to watch for are: increased or decreased urinary output, that means fewer times in the litter box or many, many more times, or more amount of urine in the litter box; changes in the defecation frequency; or if your cat is having troubles going to the bathroom. For instances, if your cat goes into the box to go to the bathroom and seems like he's straining or uncomfortable, that's something that can definitely happen with age and can be treated by your veterinarian. If you find that your cat isn't grooming as well, or is hiding more, or is having trouble eating, these are all things that you'll need to address with your veterinarian as well. Overall though, to keep your cat healthy at home as a senior citizen, you want to make sure that you're still providing active play every day, as well as environmental enrichment in puzzle toys. You also want to make sure that your cat has plenty of easily accessible elevated areas. Remember, your cat might not be able to jump as high as before if he's not feeling very comfortable. In addition, you're going to want to make sure that you provide lots of loving attention and plenty of fresh water. Keeping your cat hydrated is one of the biggest keys to keeping your cat healthy. And those are some ways to manage an elderly cat at home.

And I have with me Liz Kittleman Jackson Head Coach at Columbia University. Today I want to teach you how to Face Dodge. So a face dodge is a dodge used by attackers and what it is, the reason it's called a face dive is I'm going to pull my stick across my face in a way to bait Liz to go one way, I'm going to pull my stick back across my face and go by her. What's really important about this is that we coordinate our feet with our stick. And what I mean by that is when I come into this dodge I wanna drive this left foot forward as I bring my stick across my body. This is going to make Liz think that I'm actually going to my left. Okay my hips are going to turn slightly on a forty five degree angle, my shoulders are going to turn as if I'm actually going to run this way so that she has to step up to stop me and then very quickly I'm going to pull back, get around her and drive by her. One thing that's really important is that after I bait Liz and she bites, I want to get right around her and almost get back on the same line that I started on. So put her right on my back and get in front of her. If I don't do that Liz is able to step over. So if I go here and I come back very wide she is able to step back in front of me and then I have to do another dodge. So to review we want to coordinate our feet and our stick. Okay we really want to bait Liz by turning our body, our stick and our foot our weight going this way and then quickly pulling our stick back and then driving past her on that straight line that we started on. And that's how to Face Dodge.

Today we are going to talk about how to throw a pass. Okay, Im going to go over some main components and throwing a lacrosse ball is much like a baseball. So, if Liz is going to throw this ball like a baseball she would have a ninety degree angle with the arm that she is throwing with. She would turn her side to the target where she is throwing. She would step with her opposite foot, turn her hips, her shoulders, and then follow through with the baseball. Okay, throwing a lacrosse ball is actually very similar. So if Katelyn, with a lacrosse stick has the ball in her stick, she is going to bring her body side onto her target, this back elbow is going to be at about ninety degrees. This hand is what is different with a lacrosse stick. So she is going to bring her bottom hand down and across her body as she steps with her opposite foot, turns her hips, turns her shoulders, and as she throws she is going to follow through. So go ahead and throw it and bring this bottom hand across her body. One of the biggest things is using your top wrist as well to snap the ball. So there is going to be two actions on your stick. First your gonna have a pull with your bottom hand, a push and a snap with your top hand.  So those are some of the main components of throwing a lacrosse ball.

Well, I'm pretty sure you're stressed and so is your cat. Cats can be very bonded to territories or the areas where they're comfortable. So when you move to a new location, you can expect that to be not only one of the most stressful things in your life, but also in your cat's. One way to help your cat with this transition is to take the same items that you had at your previous home with you to you new home. Sometimes it's tempting to get all new things when you move in, but for cats, it can be comforting to have things that are familiar. When you first move into your new home, it's really important that you give your cat some time to explore each area. But don't let them have access to every space at the same time, it can be really overwhelming. Instead, especially if you're still moving things in and out, you may want to set your cat up in a bathroom or other small area with a litter box, food, water, some toys and a nice place to rest. Then, when you feel like you have some time, go in and hang out with your kitty cat. If he's doing well, you can let him out for supervised visits to the rest of the home. Expect him to be a little nervous at first, but he should get comfortable within a day or so. If within a day or so you find that he's still hiding or distressed, you should talk with your veterinarian. In addition, this is a time where aggression toward other animals or people in the home can be a problem. If you see that happening with your cat and it hasn't been a problem before, that's another time when you should reach out to your veterinarian. But in the meantime, put your cat back in his safe bathroom, so that he has a place to relax. That's how you can handle moving with your cat.

What Is Stop Motion Animation? | Stop Motion

02:15
Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514864-What-Is-Stop-Motion-Animation-Stop-Motion What is stop motion animation? Stop motion animation is basically when you take a photograph of something and you change that subject you're photographing in a very small way and you take another picture and you change it and you take another picture and you manually change it. Take another picture and you change it. Each time you're taking a picture, you're making sure to take your hand that is manipulating your subject out of the picture. Change the subject. Take another picture. Change it. Picture, change it. Picture, change it. Picture. When you play back through those pictures, flip back through them like a flipbook. You would see your subject move. Naturally, the subject's never really moving. You're moving it with your hand, but if you play back through the pictures, no hand is there. The subject seems to take on a life of its own. To be a bit more specific here, let's imagine that we have a camera trained right on this plastic rhinoceros here and we take a few picture of the rhinoceros like this and we go in and we move the rhinocerous a little bit and we take a picture. Move him, picture. Move him, picture. Move him, picture. Every time you're taking your hand out of the way before you take the picture. Move the rhinoceros. Take a picture. Move the rhino, picture. Were you to play back through all of those frames, all of those pictures, you'd see the rhinoceros move. You can apply stop motion animation to so many different things. You can move sound objects like this rhinoceros, but you can animate with paint, with cut out paper, with clay, of course. You can animate even with live people. That's called pixilation. You can do this at home with a variety of cameras and computers. I definitely encourage you to look further into stop motion animation. Stop motion is a fantastic art form. It's been around a long time and those are the basics. That's what you need to know.

How to Animate Eyelids Blinking | Stop Motion

We are going to animate the clay face to blink. And what we do to make the character blink is take some clay. It can be the same color as the clay you're already using or a different color. We're using the same color here. And I create a little series of shapes here, two half-moon shapes for the half eyelids, and then two full flat circle shapes for when the eye is fully covered with the lid. And we'll take a few pictures of our guy just as he is. Maybe adjust an eyebrow a little bit. Adjust the mouth. It's nice to, even if very subtly, keep your character alive. Little moves. And now we'll go in for the blink. And we'll start with the half eyelid. Rather than just drop an eyelid over the top of the eye, we'll take a moment here and let it. Picture of the half eyelid. We'll remove the half eyelids. We'll go to the full eyelids. Sometimes you'll find it's a little bit big. You want to reduce the size of your eyelid to fit just over the eye. You don't want to see any of that eye sticking out from the eyelid. You just want it to be covered enough. You also want to press it on so it looks to be covering the eye, but you don't want to push it in so far that it becomes difficult to remove. Full eyelids take a moment. It will be a longer blink. We'll remove those full lids. We'll go back to half lids, and that one. And then we'll go back to our fellow wide-eyed. And we'll give him a quick little turn of his eyes after his blink. Sometimes it will take you a little while to execute something in stop motion. It does take a lot of patience and focus, but I think you'll find it's worth it. And there is our blink. That's just one more wonderful thing you can do with your clay face.

It's important to realize that vaccinations vary depending on location and based on your cat's exposure to the environment and other cats. So, the number one partner in this is your veterinarian. Some people can be a little nervous that their veterinarian might recommend vaccinations that their cat doesn't need but if you have an honest conversation with them many veterinarians are very interested in working with you to make sure that your cat is not over vaccinated. Our goal is to have happy, healthy cats that live as long as possible. If you're thinking about taking your cat in to the veterinarian they are definitely going to recommend that you get a rabies vaccine. That's because it has to happy legally. It's also just really important because if your cat happens to be bitten, or to bite someone else, the procedures that happen if your cat doesn't have current vaccine history for rabies can be strikingly different from a cat who's current on that vaccine. So, if you're going to get one vaccine, make sure that you have the rabies vaccine. Another vaccine that people find relatively difficult to decide on is the feline leukemia vaccine, sometimes called feleuk. This vaccine is often not needed for many indoor cats. However, if your cat is going to be indoors and outdoors, or if you plan to bring different cats into your environment (such as if you foster cats, or share cats with other people, or have cats come in just in the neighborhood) you're going to want to talk to your veterinarian about whether than vaccine is right for your cat. Another common vaccine is the so-called distemper vaccine. This vaccine contains multiple agents that protect your cat from infectious diseases. It's really important to talk to your veterinarian about whether this vaccine is right for your cat, but most vets will say it's a good thing to do at least for the first few years of life and they may alternate whether they give it every year or not but that's going to depend on a conversation with you. That's some great information about vaccines.

How to Make a Wire Puppet | Stop Motion

05:40
Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514877-How-to-Make-a-Wire-Puppet-Stop-Motion So, how do you make a good, sturdy puppet for animation? There are a number of ways that you could create a puppet for your animation. I like to start with a wire armature and build from that wire armature. So, I take some aluminum wire, kind of a thinner gauge like this. And I've rolled out a pretty long piece. And I'm going to fold that piece this way and then cut it so I now have this length of wire. I'm going to start at the top. The loose ends meet down at the bottom. I'm going to take my finger and my thumb, and pinch and twist the wire to create a kind of a neck for my puppet. I'm going to then take another piece of the wire, loop it out, pinch there at the base of the neck, and twist my puppet's first arm. When I pinch out the the next arm from the wire, I'm going to do it with a longer piece of wire. I'm also going to measure up and make sure that the arm is roughly matched with the other one, and we'll pinch and twist that as well. Now that we have two arms and our neck, we will pinch and twist the body. Next I will roll in the wire, wrap it back in to the back, and this will be for the first leg. You want to tuck those loose ends in once you roll them in there. It's not a bad thing to give your wire armature decent-sized feet so he can stand. You can always reduce the size of the foot later, but at least to start, you might want some of the extra wire there. Measure out for your next leg. There. And twist that in. Twist. Next leg. And you're starting to get a sort of a humanoid form, human form. This of course could also become a four-legged creature of some kind if you just bend it down. So, the wire acts as a kind of a skeleton for your puppet. But if you'd like to bulk it out a bit, you can use Styrofoam, and you can cut that Styrofoam down if you need to. You can also shape Styrofoam with your fingers. If you want to give your puppet a belly, a chest, you can add that. And with some masking tape, lock it onto your armature. We'll go back to him standing up for a moment. Another thing you can do is add a little wood to the leg to give your armature a knee. This also strengthens the legs of the armature. I'm using a very thin dowel here, but you could use bamboo skewers or even toothpicks if they're long enough. I've got the wood against the leg and I'm going to tape it on. You should always have masking tape within reach when you're building puppets. Really, when you're building anything. And I'm wrapping the tape around the wire and the wood. I want to get exactly the length of the leg covered. And I wrap that tape in nice and tight with no air pockets. Make sure that the mechanics of it work. I'm going to break that leg off the bottom there, so now I have this straight leg, and I'll adjust it and then break the knee in there as well. So, this is the only place where that will bend, otherwise it stays straight. You can do this for the arms as well. It helps to do it for both legs. Here's another similar guy. He has both of his legs already on there, and we've taped in a nice, big belly for him. So, here we have him. A beautiful armature filled out with some Styrofoam and some wood, all ready to go. He's standing, which is a good sign. We haven't even added any clay yet to his feet and he's already standing. And he's ready to become the character he's meant to be.

I'm the head Lacrosse Coach at Columbia University. I'm here with Katie Chrest Erbe our Assistant Coach at Columbia and Kaitlyn Jackson with GameDay Lacrosse. Today we're going to talk about 2 key defensive drills to help you become a great defender. A really important aspect of defense is footwork. Most coaches will suggest that you get a ladder and you spend as much time on it as possible. This drill is great for working on your footwork, not allowing your attacker to get past you. So, Katie would be approaching the line and Kaitlyn is going to make sure that she's moving her feet as quickly as possible from side to side so that Katie can not pass the line. That's a perfect example of how we play defense, you're not letting the attacker get past you. Another great really basic standard defensive drill are 1V1's. You've got to be a good 1V1 defender to be a helpful part of the defensive unit. So, great drill as the attacker starts with the ball, typically off a pass, she comes in, the defender reads her, breaks her feet down, making contact and keeping her in the direction that she wants her to go. So, those are 2 great drills to work on your defense. They can be done anywhere and especially the 1V1's should be practiced from every point of the 8 meter.

There are many different tips that can help you help them get along better. First thing you might want to know is, why are they fighting at all? Well, there's a few different reasons that cats fight. One, is that there might not be enough resources for them at home. If there aren't enough food and litter box stations, enough attention from people and enough space and resting areas sometimes cats will fight over those items when they wouldn't if they had enough to play around with. The other thing that can cause cats to be aggressive with each other is if one or both of them get fearful of something entirely different than the other cat. For instance, some cats are fearful of noises and when they get stressed, they actually target the other cat with their aggressive behavior. So, regardless of what's causing your cats to fight, the most important thing is separate those cats as soon as you can. Get them each their own space with a litter box and some food, water and of course plenty of attention. Then when you're ready and things have calmed down a little bit, you can find out which treats are your cats favorites or maybe event heir favorite toys and set up sessions where they're able to play with each other, but at a far distance. For instance, they might be able to just take treats from different people at a distance and be calm and quiet while doing so. If you notice that the cats are hissing or growling or staring at each other, that's not a good session. The goal is for them to look really calm and comfortable the entire session. A session like this might only last one to ten seconds. You want to keep it really short. Short enough so that it always ends on a good note. Once you feel like you've done that, end the session and you can repeat it a couple times a day. Gradually, you can move the cats closer and closer together and even let them engage and play together or what we call parallel play where maybe you give a wand toy to each cat at a distance from each other. Over time since they will be having many, many positive interactions with each other they can help develop a more positive relationship even if they'd previously had a good one, but not it's on the rocks. The other thing you should consider if you're having troubles with this is talking to your veterinarian. Inter cat aggression or aggression between cats is a really common problem in cats and it can cause a lot of distress in the household. So, make sure to reach out to your veterinarian if you start having troubles and these tips don't help. That's how you work on inter cat aggression.

What Are Video Game Designer Roles? | Video Game Careers

Watch more How to Get a Job in the Video Game Industry videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500604-What-Are-Video-Game-Designer-Roles-Video-Game-Careers So there are a lot of different types of game designers. There isn't just one role called 'Game Designer.' It depends on what the activity is for sort of assembling the game and the way they want it to work. There are content game designers. Those are people who write scripts and write quests. World builders are the people who assemble the world and that's often a shared role between the artists and the world builders, but the world builders tend to do more technical work, such as deciding that this is how these obstacles interact with each other. Make the trap spring open again and stuff. Then there are systems designers and these are people who come up with the rules. When I shoot my gun and I hit somebody, how much damage does it do? They decide that if it's this gun, and you have this power up and they've got that much armor, then this formula says you get that much damage. And that's what a systems designer does. Many times those systems designer are not only really proficient with things like Excel and Access, but also with scripting languages, because they might actually implement some of that code depending on the game in a scripting language and be responsible for how the game actually plays from a moment to moment basis. Last you have either the creative director or lead designer depending on the scope and size of the project and the company. And that person's responsibility is the overall vision of the game, and making sure that it's well communicated in the beginning and throughout and that it sets and reaches the standards for the vision of the game as it was put out originally once it's shipped.

I'm the Head Lacrosse coach at Columbia University. I'm joined by Katie Chrest Erbe, Assistant Lacrosse Coach at Columbia and Kaitlyn Jackson of GameDay Lacrosse. Today we're going to give some very basic fundamentals about the draw. Every lacrosse game starts with what's called the draw. The draw is taken at the beginning of each half and after each goal that is scored. The referee will begin each draw by placing the ball at the top of each of their sticks. The ref will make sure that everything is balanced and that neither payer is moving. You need to make sure that your hands are lined up with the center line. You can not be out or in, you've got to be sure that you're right along the line. So, there are two main ways to take a draw it's either what we consider pulling or pushing. In this scenario, Kaitlyn is going to be pulling up, over her left hand shoulder, trying to get the ball to her offensive end. Katie is looking to push the ball to her offensive end.  When you're pulling one thing that you want to make sure you're doing is what we calling digging the ball out from the stick of your opponent. The way to really control where that ball is going is to get it on the back side of your stick. If Kaitlyn is successful at doing this, she can put the ball to the side, behind her, or if she's quick enough she can even put it in front of her. Having really quick hands is going to make you a very effective drawer The faster your hands can turn over, the more likely you are to get total control of the ball, which is what you're looking for. The other thing you have to use when you're taking a drawer is your torso and your legs. You don't want to stand straight up and just bring the stick up above your head without any power. You've got to get low, as you can see they're using their legs, alright you've got to keep your knees bent, you've got to make sure you're rotating so you can get the power to put the ball where you want to go. In order to keep the draw legal you've got to make sure that your hands come up and over the height of your shoulders. If you don't, the ref will retake the drawer. When pushing the draw, Katie as you can see is going to use her strength to use the ball and her stick towards where she wants it to go. But you can see that she still has brought her arms high enough to make the draw legal. So remember , the quickness of her hands, using your body, keeping you knees bent, using your torso, and using your strength to put the ball where you want to put it is going to make you a successful drawer.

How to Animate a Clay Face | Stop Motion

Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514873-How-to-Animate-a-Clay-Face-Stop-Motion We've created a clay face to make a stop-motion animated film with. We're going to bring this face to life right now. We have our face all set up here, ready to go. He's made of clay. His eye brows and his mustache are also made of clay. The only thing not-clay here are his wooden-bead eyes which we can turn with a toothpick. We'll start off by just taking a few frames of our face with nothing happening. Now we'll begin the movement. When you're starting out, it's nice to be subtle with your moves. Make something happen, very basic expression. You can raise up the eyebrows a little bit. Take a picture. Eyebrows are a big part of the facial expression, of course. As I mentioned, with a toothpick we can turn those eyes in their sockets just a little bit, tiny move. Take your picture. Make tiny little movement of the eyes looking one way. Adjust those brows maybe. Adjust the mustache if you like. Take a picture. If he's going to just look in that one direction for a moment, you might take a couple pictures looking in that direction before we change it up again and have him start to look in the other direction. Our face would be looking suspiciously around. That's the idea. Now that we have him looking in just this one direction, I'm adjusting his lip just a bit, too. Just a little push up of the lip, adjust the eyebrow, and we'll take again just a few frames in that position before we go back to the middle perhaps. We'll play that back. He should look to one side and the other -- a little smirk. It's a simple start to animating a clay face. There is much, much more you can do, but remember, start simple. You can always go further with it, but start simple.

So I'm going to ask my model here to place his hands, both his hands, on top of his scalp and do a rotational manner.  Just going to help guide his fingers.  And you can do gentle manner of starting points, the front side, making sure that the hairline is addressed and moving towards the back of his scalp as well and making sure that the entire scalp surface is addressed.  You want to have a relaxed finger.  I know that fingernail aspects may be more refreshing but fingertips especially if you are using beneficial oils is going to be more effective in getting the surface area covered which is your primary goal is surface area coverage.  Stimulate the scalp.  You're trying to get the universal coverage with your fingertips.  So that is a good way to start.  Let's save your still continue on with the oils and then you're also going to try to pull the basin of your hair to stimulate a more rigorous effect.  The main aspect is using the thumb and forefingers to pull out your hair.  Go to the back of your head as well.  The main aspect is trying to get the front side to be completely stimulated so you can take one of the hands and let go of that left hand and focus on shampooing this aspect as such utilizing your fingertips more.  And rotation and rotation.   And to end your scalp massage you can just gently press the sides of your heads and letting up not too hard but tractioning off as a nice ending, and that's it.  And that's how you do scalp massage to stimulate your scalp.

How to Storyboard Your Animation | Stop Motion

02:37
Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514866-How-to-Storyboard-Your-Animation-Stop-Motion So you don't always have to make a plan when you're creating a stop motion animation, but it's a pretty good idea to go in with a plan. And one way to plan is by creating a storyboard. Many film directors use storyboards, and they use different styles of storyboards. what a storyboard basically is is a piece of paper with panels drawn out. They represent a frame or a shot of your film, and there can be any amount of space for you to take notes as the director. How much you draw in your panel, how many notes you take, is up to you. You're the one planning the film. It doesn't have to be a perfect, beautiful masterpiece. What it has to be is a clear map, a way for you to get through your film, something to go back to if you ever get lost or lose focus. So we'll put a title for our film up here in the space provided. We'll call it "Duck." And we'll go in here to our first shot, and we're going to decide that our first shot is just the water. So we see the line here for water, and we could put a little sun in the sky because maybe the sun is out. And we'll number this shot 1, and maybe it's going to be the same shot, so we'll call it 1A. And we'll say "Water Peaceful," if you want to describe the mood. Again, it's up to the director. It's up to the person making the storyboards how they choose to do it. In shot 1B, our duck will begin to come into the frame. So we'll draw just the head of the duck coming in there, and maybe a little arrow pointing to show that the duck is moving. "Duck enters." It's the same shot, sort of the third part of it. The duck has fully arrived, and we show that he's arrived. "Duck quacks." And we make little lines. That's a symbol to show that he's quacking. It's a simple drawing, but if I were to try and animate this sequence, I would know where to begin and how to move through it. So making a storyboard is a great way to plan out your animation.

How to Make Baby Applesauce | Baby Food

Watch more How to Make Your Own Baby Food videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515557-How-to-Make-Baby-Applesauce-Baby-Food We're going to talk about making your own baby apple puree or applesauce if you have some older toddlers in the house. What you want to start off with is a sweeter varity of apple. I'm a huge fan of Gala, Hunnycrust, or even Red Delicious comes out very beautifully. Depending on you know, the quanity your making, if your doing just a few small servings I tend to prefer to leave the peel on because about ninety percent of an apples' nutritional content will be in the peel. So if you peel it, you're removing so many beneficial nutrients for your child. So, one of the big things that you want to focus on when your slicing in order to steam the apples, is to try to uniformly slice them so they cook evenly. So, you know, every chunk will be slightly different but if they're more or less the same size then they will cook evenly once they're in the steamer. So, apples are really fantastic. They're one of the most high scorces of fiber that you can find for children. So if you do have a child that's having constipation issues this is a really great food to offer them to keep the system moving along so to speak. So, we have three apples sliced up here that we're going to put in the steam basket. And the reason that I prefer to steam is that it will retain the most amount of nutrients for your child verses roasting or boiling. So, we'll add these apples to our steamer, and then we're going to give it four to five minutes until it's fork tender. Alright so, now that our apples have been steaming about four to five minutes depending on how small or large you slice them. you just want to make sure they're nice and fork tender before you pull them out. So, I use a slotted spoon and a regualr just table fork to test the softness. Good to go. So now they're fork tender, we'll add them to the high speed food processor or blender. Come on over here. And depending on the apple of ridles like a Red Delicious are probably going to come out like a little bit waterier. So you want to screen off any exsess water. these are Gala so they tend to have a little less water in them so will not have an issue with water. When you are preparing purees, I tend to start on the thicker side, so you want to take out a lot of the extra water because it's always much eaiser to thin them down than it is to thicken them back up. And as your baby grow they'll tend to prefer the thicker as opposed to the thin. So, we'll just flip on the blender and blend about twenty to thirty seconds. Alright, so now that twenty thirty seconds has gone by we're down to a nice smooth consistancy and you just portion it out into your serving dish. And you're ready to go. One of my favorite things, especially during colder winter months is to add a little bit of cinnamon. I think it's great to introduce babies to spices. The earlier the better. And apples are a fantastic puree that you can add cinnamon to.

Singular vs. Plural Verbs | Grammar Lessons

02:31
Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515756-Singular-vs-Plural-Verbs-Grammar-Lessons So I'd like to talk to you about singular versus plural verbs. You probably know that nouns have singular and plural forms. For example, this is a singular desk, but if I waved a wand and a second desk appeared, we would have desks, plural. And we get that by adding an s to the end of the word desk. Verbs work exactly the opposite way. Typically, if we want to make a verb plural, we drop the s or if we want to make it singular, we add the s. So I'll give you an example, so you can see what it looks like. So here we have the sentence, 'The cat scampers.' We have a singular cat, so we need a singular verb. And in this case, we add an s to the verb 'scampers' to make it singular. Here's another example. So in this case, we have the sentence, 'The bees sting.'This time, 'bees' is plural, which means we need the plural form of the verb 'sting'. And to get that, we drop the s. Now let me give you one more example. Sometimes you'll be dealing with a word that ends in an es. So here, you can see we have the sentence, 'The church inspires awe.' So in this case, we have a singular 'church,' and all we do is add an s to the end of the verb 'inspire' to get the singular verb 'inspires'. If we have plural churches, then we drop the s to get the plural verb 'inspire'. One professional tip I'd like to pass along is that in most cases, either the subject or the verb will end in an s, but not both. So if you have a sentence that says, say, 'The churches inspires awe.' You can see each word has an s at the end, and it doesn't sound quite right. So that can be a tip off to you that you need to change either your subject or your verb, so that they're both singular or both plural. I hope this gives you some good ideas about the difference between singular and plural verbs.

How to Identify the Subject of a Sentence | Grammar Lessons

01:32
Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515754-How-to-Identify-the-Subject-of-a-Sentence-Grammar-Lessons Stephanie: All sentences have two things in common. One is that they all have at least one subject, and least one verb. So today, I'm going to talk to you about how to find the subject for your sentence. Let's start with the shortest sentence in the Bible for an example. Jesus wept. So if we want to find the subject, which is either a noun or a pronoun, um, I suggest first finding the verb, they tend to be easier to locate. Uh, the verb is the action of the sentence. So here, our action, is wept. Now, once we found the action we need to find our actor. Well, Jesus is the one who was weeping, so he's the actor, or the subject. Now, I'll give you another example. That's a simple sentence. It can be a little harder to find the subject, when you get into more complex sentences. So, here's an example. The crowd cheered for Lady Gaga. Well, let's start by finding our verb. The action here is the word, cheered. So, who is our actor, or the subject? Well, it's the crowd that's cheering. So, the crowd cheered for Lady Gaga, the crowd is our subject. It's important to note, that although Lady Gaga might be the most interesting part of the sentence, she's not the subject, because she's not the one performing the action. So, I hope this helps you understand how to identify the subject of your sentence.

Today we're gong to give you top 3 tips for catching. As you'll see with Katie and Kaitlyn passing in the background, the grip on their stick is loose. It's what we call soft hands. You don't want to put a very tight grip around the shaft of your stick, it would cause for the ball bouncing out of the stick head because the grip is too rigid. Next tip, you want to be sure that you give your teammate a target, she's got to know where to throw the ball. Third tip, make sure that when you're catching, you're not snagging the ball out of the air. You're not grabbing it. In most cases that will result with the ball on the ground. You want to make sure that by using your body and your stick you're giving with the ball. Giving it time to settle into the head of your stick, so that you can then make a proper throw. So remember, use soft hands, give your teammate a target, and give with the ball as it's coming into your stick.

You've got to be flexible, you have to be explosive, you have to be able to change direction, move your feet. Those are the important physical things that college coaches look for. They are going to look for arm length, how big your hands are, do you walk with your feet pointing forward or are you a little bit of a ten two walker. There's so many things that college coach is looking for. Today we're going to talk about a rocker dodge. Generally, this dodge is used most often around the crease but it actually can be used anywhere on the field. A rocker dodge is when we use a change of direction, a change of weight and we use our body to, kind of, trick our defender to thinking we're going to go one way and then we roll back over top. So, if I was playing on Liz, okay, and I end up in a position like this, where she has already made contact on me what I'm going to do is I'm going to take a quick step back here, I'm going to lean my weight as if I'm actually going to roll down and under which makes her, kind of, step this way and overplay me and then I'm going to roll back over the top. So, some of the key components of this is that I really, A: I want to protect my stick, so my stick actually wants to come with my body weight and my shoulders so that Liz actually thinks that I'm going to go this way and them I'm going to roll back over the top. Okay? Another thing is our shoulders are really important in this dodge and our head. So, if I rock back like this but my shoulders and my head never come back, it's not as believable as if I really just give a quick shoulder fake and a head fake and then that wil really throw her off so that I can get free over the top. So, those are some of the things that you can do to do an effective rocker dodge.

Verb to Use When Subject Follows Verb | Grammar Lessons

02:10
Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515758-Verb-to-Use-When-Subject-Follows-Verb-Grammar-Lessons The most common sentence structure in the English language involves a subject followed by a verb. So one example is, I love ice cream. I being the subject, love being the verb. You eat peas. The weather is sunny. But sometimes, sentences get more complicated, and the verb will come before the subject. So I am going to tell you how to make sure your subject and verb agree, when the verb comes before the subject. So here is an example, our sentence is inside macys, sit or sits santa. Let start by finding the verb. The verb is sit or sits because that is the action. And Santa is our actor, so he is our subject. So we need these two words to agree. In this case, Santa is singular so we need the singular form of the word sit. So it should be, inside macys sits Santa. We add an s to the end of that verb to get the singular form. Let me give you one more example by making this sentence a little more complicated. So say we change the sentence to, inside macys sit or sits Santa and his elves. Well now we have more than one person in the subject. We have Santa and his elves. That means that our subject is now plural and we need the plural form of the verb sit. So in this case, we choose, inside macys sit Santa and his elves. We dropped the s, and we go for the plural verb. So that is how you make sure that your verb and your subject agree when your verb comes before your subject in the sentence.

Puppet Animation Basics | Stop Motion

03:40
Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514876-Puppet-Animation-Basics-Stop-Motion So when you're approaching a more complicated puppet and how to animate that puppet, a few good things to keep in mind is that your puppet's feet are nice and flat there and they're sturdy. They're holding your puppet up. In some cases, animators would drill the feet into the floor for each step. We're not going to get that complicated. We're going to keep this kind of simple. You can see that this puppet here is a work in progress. His arms are still just the exposed wire. You can see the tape and the wire for his hands. We're going to work with him just like that. The rest of him is covered with clay, but he is made of wire and Styrofoam and wood. His eyes here are made of plastic. So we'll start very simply with our puppet. We'll bring his arms down a bit. We'll kind of put him at rest. I think we'll even have him looking down a bit as well. And we're going to take a few pictures of him just like that. You've established with a few frames. Now I'm going to go in. When I animate my puppet, I'm going to steady his body with one hand, and I'm going to move his head just a little bit with the other. When I get my hands and body completely clear of the shot, I'm going to take my picture. We're not going in with much of a plan here. We're just going to kind of riff on this for a moment. So we start with a puppet looking up at the camera. A few like that. We can adjust his eyes a little, eyelids. Twitch the ear a bit. We can move that tail a little, too. He has a tail back there. Move the tail a little more. Always make sure that your puppet is steady with every move that you're giving him. Remember that you want to move your puppet in very small increments, too. If he's making large moves, it's all over much too quickly, and it moves so fast that your viewer can't even really see what's happening. Teeny tiny moves. Keep numerous parts moving at once, too, if you really want to give him life. I'm going to have him start to walk out this way. We'll see how it goes. It's good to have a little extra clay on hand sometimes to execute a convincing walk, to make something stick when it doesn't want to stick. That little extra bit of clay really helps. So we could continue and have him walk all the way out of the frame, something that it will take a great amount of time to do. And I intend to do it, but not right now. Those are the very, very basics of starting your animation with a complicated puppet like this one. Remember to be super-creative every chance you get, and that you can go a lot further than I've gone.

Types of Guns | Gun Guide

02:29
Watch more Gun Guide videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515079-Types-of-Guns-Gun-Guide Today we're going to talk about different types of guns on the market today. What I like to do is we like to categorize guns. There are two different kinds. Basically, you have handguns and long guns. Once you have that, you can categorize them into different subcategories. With handguns, for example, you have automatics such as this Desert Eagle here. Automatics, they're magazine fed and they're automatic, which means every time you fire the weapon, the gas propels the slide back and forth, which ejects the old round and automatically puts a new round in. So you don't have to do anything but pull the trigger, pull the trigger, pull the trigger. The gun does all the work. Revolvers, on the other hand, they have a cylinder. This is a .357 magnum and you can put six bullets in. Put your six bullets in, and now, you have to pull the trigger each time. Every time you pull the trigger, this cylinder will move and put the next bullet in line for you to shoot. Pull the trigger each time, the cylinder moves. It's all done manually. These are very reliable and less likely to jam and give you problems than an automatic, but they also hold less rounds. When you're talking about long guns, you have rifles and shotguns. You also have what's called sub-machine guns. They're kind of in the middle between pistols and rifles. This is an Uzi 9mm sub-machine gun. It's very small and compact. It shoots 9mm, so it's decently powerful. The stock can be extended for longer, more accurate shooting. It's a very good gun and very fun to shoot. Shotguns and rifles, you have shotguns. This is a Mossberg 12-gauge Pump Action shotgun. It's very good for certain kinds of hunting and excellent for home defense. This is a pistol grip. I have added a fold-out stock, so from pistol grip, you can make it a full-size shotgun. A little more support, it's a little easier to shoot this way. You also have several, several types of rifles on the market. You have hunting and sniper rifles which are usually bolt action, which you can see behind me. Also, you have several, several types of assault rifles on the market. There are a few examples behind as well. Those are higher capacity, very powerful and very long-range weapons. This is a basic overview of different types of guns on the market today.

How to Create a Clay Character | Stop Motion

03:47
Watch more How to Do Stop Motion Animation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514870-How-to-Create-a-Clay-Character-Stop-Motion So if you'd like to make a clay character or a clay puppet to be animated, there area few great tips I can give you. First, get some clay. The clay that you animate with is really up to you. There are a variety of modeling clays on the market. You're probably looking for a non-drying, non-hardening modeling clay, something with wax or oil in it so that your puppets don't harden up on while you're animating. That would be a bad thing. So we have some of this red modeling clay here, and I'm taking a whole bar, and I'm softening the clay in my hands first. When the clay feels soft enough, I'll roll it out. And I think I'll start by making a very basic humanoid puppet, two arms, two legs, a head. You want to keep in mind that your puppet needs to be sturdy. So using your finger and your thumb, you can start on the bottom of your oval of clay by pinching out a leg and another leg like so. As you're pinching, keep in mind You want your creation to be able to stand, maybe even walk in your animation. So you want to keep those legs fairly thick. You want to bring a head and two arms out on top. Same pincher fingers, same approach. We'll start with the head, gently pinching one way and the other way. And really I'm not pinching the head right now. I'm pinching a neck. You leave yourself a little clay up on the top, and that will actually just be your head, and you can round it off. Be gentle as you pinch. Try standing again. Once you have that head, you can pinch out an arm on one side and an arm from the other side. Stand him up again. Is your figure animatable? Does he or she balance? These are important things to consider when you're building a puppet to be animated. So we could also create a four-legged creature. It's a similar approach. Suppose we were making a dog. Pincher fingers. You can start almost anywhere on the puppet, but pinch out that neck and that head first. It's great to work from one piece of clay, rather than taking a piece off of another piece of clay and sticking it on, say for the tail of your dog, where it's likely to maybe just fall off during animation. You don't want that. It's best to pinch that tail. I'm pinching the legs of the dog. Again, you just want to consider will the animal stand? Can you animate? So again, when you're making a clay puppet to be animated, use one block of clay, one piece of clay. Pinch those parts out. Make sure your subject can stand, that you can move isolated parts of him or her. And of course, this is just the beginning. You can add eyes, a nose. You can add a mouth to your puppet. Different colors, accessories. But this is a great way to start and perfectly ready for animating.

Verb to Use with a Collective Noun | Grammar Lessons

02:11
Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515763-Verb-to-Use-with-a-Collective-Noun-Grammar-Lessons It's important for your subject and your verb to agree, even when a collective noun is used. But it can sometimes be difficult to decide if your collective noun is singular or plural. For example, 'team' is a collective noun that refers to a group of people, but it's actually a singular noun. So let me give you an example of what it would look like. If we want the verb and the subject of our sentence to agree, first we need to find the verb and the subject. So in this case, the verb is 'loves', because it's the action, and the actor, or the subject, is 'the volleyball team'. So when we see a word like 'team', we know that we're dealing with a collective noun, and as a general rule of thumb, collective nouns are singular. So in this case, we need to reach for the singular form of love, which is loves. "The volleyball team loves to win," rather than, "The volleyball team love to win." We also see collective nouns when we're talking about food. For example, there's a dessert called peaches and cream. Now, it seems like we're dealing with multiple nouns here, peaches and cream. But together they form a collective subject, peaches and cream, and so we treat that as singular. Here's what it would look like in a sentence. So if I want to indicate that my favorite thing to eat is the dessert peaches and cream, I need to treat peaches and cream as a singular subject, because I'm referring to one dessert, and therefore, I need to choose the singular verb, which is 'is', so that there's agreement. So my sentence becomes, "Peaches and cream is my favorite dessert," rather than, "Peaches and cream are my favorite dessert." This one can get a little bit confusing. Don't be thrown off when you see a noun that's referring to more than one item. If it's a collective noun, it's singular, and you need the singular verb.

So I'm going to have the model do some self-massage by putting some gentle downward pressure towards the face, not so much up but towards inward so that you're releasing the pressure in between the nasal labial folds. And you're starting from downward moving upwards towards your eyeballs in precision, but the actual pressure still exactly is towards the face. And this helps to pump out the lymphatic that also maybe compromised in terms of congestion. And you're then going to move a little bit more outside of the cheeks in such a manner and that opens up the passages of the sinuses. Another really great point to utilize is right in between the eyebrows here. A lot of the pressure also happens with this top portion of the forehead onto the nose. So you can use both your fingers and one finger, I guess. It's up to you, and you want to go underneath the bridge of the brow, the ridge of the brow which is up here, the shelf of the brow, and use gentle upward motion, flicking up and went holding that position as well to release the downward motion that occurs on a daily basis and putting the hold for about five minutes. This also helps to clear nasal passage as well. And take in deep breath in and out. And you could also utilize essential oils of eucalyptus and peppermint to open up the passages as well along with your self-massage.

12 Zodiac Signs & What They Mean | Astrology Charts

Watch more How to Understand Your Astrological Chart videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515410-12-Zodiac-Signs-and-What-They-Mean-Astrology-Charts Hi, I am Jenny Lynch, and I'm talking about the zodiac signs and what they mean. So the first sign of the zodiac is Aries, and Aries is represented by a ram, okay? and is a fire sign. So we know that Aries people have the qualities of being impulsive, of being leaders, of being very impatient. They're also natural born entrepreneurs; they want to do things, they don't want to just sit here; they want to just go and do things. Taurus is the bull, does not move as fast as Aries. Taurus is grounded, is patient, but it also can be very stubborn. So that's is one of the qualities of Tauruses, that they're fixed; once they make out their mind is hard to change it.. With the Gemini, that's the sign of the twins, they're always changing their mind, okay? Is a dual sign, is an air sign too, so qualities of Gemini are endlessly curious, very social, friendly people, intellectual too, and they like a lot of stimulation. When we get to Cancer we are talking about the sensitive side. It's the crab, and if the crab gets sensitive, it would close down and run away, but they're also very much into their family, and they're very sweet and loving people, you just have to win their trust. When it comes to Leo, Leo is the lion, roar, you've heard this before, but it does mean that the person is a very loyal person. They are very honorable generally, generous, good courteous. Those are other fine qualities. they can also be very talented. With Virgo, the Virgin. We are talking about someone who is interested in health, nutrition, who is very organized usually, although the key word here is compulsive. And so, either they'll be really neat, or they could be very sloppy. But the main thing about Virgo is that they love to serve other people. So if you  have one in your life you're quite lucky. Now, we get into Libra. Libra is the sign of the scales, and Libras are all about beauty, grace, refinement, the arts. They're into relationships very much. You'll never ever hardly ever see a single Libra. Let's talk about Scorpio.  Scorpio is the scorpion okay. It's also the eagle. There's two different types of Scorpios they say; the ones that are very high with moral standing, and the other ones that go down, they take that road instead. So when you are thinking about a Scorpio do, you are thinking about someone who is very intense, who is very driven, and who can very much want to be a part of your life and merge. This is someone who doesn't take any thing lightheartedly. I'm talking about a Sagittarius, we are talking about lighthearted. Sagittarius is the happy go lucky sign of the archer. And they always say with Sagittarius that the symbol of the archer pointing the bow back it means that they are looking far into the future, or a far distance away. So these people often love to travel, and love foreign cultures, and they're very philosophical. Capricorn, this is the goat, the mountain goat. Highly, highly ambitious, they want to climb the mountain alright? You get the idea here, it's a earth sign, they're very practical, really organized and they usually do really well in business, and with any kind of structure, because they're ruled by Saturn. When we get to Aquarius, this is the friendship sign. It's also the water bearer; of carrying of liquids, but is the most friendly social sign of all. Very strong with humanitarians, they love to be around groups of people, and they often make great doctors. When we get to Pisces, we are talking about another dual sign; the fish swimming in two different directions. So, Pisces is often  a very sensitive, very mystical, and very misunderstood sign, okay? They are highly sympathetic, and as I said before, this is a sign that kind of go with the flow, it's a water sign. And those are the twelve signs of the zodiac, and a little about them.

Verb to Use with Subjects Joined by "Or" | Grammar Lessons

03:31
Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515762-Verb-to-Use-with-Subjects-Joined-by-Or-Grammar-Lessons So sometimes you'll write a sentence with two subjects joined by the word or and you need to figure out what form of the verb you need in order to agree. Uh, will the verb need to be singular or will it need to be plural. Well, as a general rule of thumb when two singular subjects are joined by the word or you need the singular form of the verb so let me give you an example. Let's say I have two friends named Michelle and Piya [sp] and they like to buy books but they don't want to spend too much money. So, they take turns buying a book and sharing the book. So, we'd get a sentence like this Michelle or Piya buy or buys the book to share. In this case, our subject is Michelle or Piya and because we see the word or in there we have to treat this subject as singular which means we need the singular form of the word buy. So in this case it would be Michelle or Piya buys the book to share. That's the correct verb to make sure that there's agreement in the sentence. Now a word of warning the rule changes if you have two subjects joined by the word or if one of those subjects is singular and one of those subjects is plural. Let me give you an example. In this example, the cheerleaders or the coach pick or picks up the equipment. So, in this case pick or picks is our verb is our action. And the cheerleaders or the coach are our actors or our subject. So, in order to find out whether we choose the singular or plural verb we need to decide if the cheerleader or the coach as a subject is singular or plural. Normally, if you have two subjects joined by or and their both singular subjects this would be singular but in this case we have a plural noun and a singular noun so it gets a little bit trickier. In this situation, you choose the verb that agrees with whichever part of the subject is closet to the verb. So in this case we have coach. Coach is closest to our verb and coach is singular so we choose the singular form of the verb for this sentence. The cheerleaders or the coach picks up the equipment. Now this would change if our sentence were worded just a little bit differently. Now we've reversed the order of the nouns in our subject so that the sentence reads the coach or the cheerleaders pick or picks up the equipment. So in this case we need to use the form of the verb that agrees with the noun that's closest to it. So in this case cheerleaders are closest to our verb. Cheerleaders are plural so we need our plural verb. And our sentence becomes the coach or the cheerleaders pick up the equipment so making sure that your subjects and your verbs agree in a sentence when you have two subjects joined by the word or can be a little bit tricky but I hope that this clarifies it for you.

Verb to Use When Subject Is "None" | Grammar Lessons

Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515760-Verb-to-Use-When-Subject-Is-None-Grammar-Lessons When you're writing a sentence, you want the verb to agree with the subject. But sometimes, it can be tricky when you have a word like none as part of the subject. So I'm going to tell you how you can make sure that there's agreement in your sentence when you see the word none. There are different kinds of pronouns, some are singular, some are plural, and some swing both ways. They're like living in San Francisco in the 1960s and 70s. None is one of those words that swings both ways which means that sometimes it can be singular, and sometimes it can be plural, depending on the sentence. So when you have a sentence with the word none in it, like this one, I'm going to show you how you can decide whether you need the singular or the plural verb. In this case, the verb in our sentence is has. And the subject in our sentence is none of my stamp collection. Now we're trying to figure out if the subject is singular or plural. Well, in this case, when you see the word none, and you know it swings both ways, you look at what comes next. In this case, it's stamp collection. If stamp collection is singular, which it is, you have a singular subject. None is functioning in a singular way. So, in this case, we need the singular verb has. None of my stamp collection has lost its value. It would be incorrect to say, None of my stamp collection have lost their value." Let me give you another example. So let's change this sentence to be a little bit different. Let's say, none of my stamps have lost their value. All right. So, in this case, our subject is plural. We see the word none, we know it swings both ways. So, we look at what comes next. And, in this case, what comes next is the word stamps, which is plural. So now, none of my stamps is plural. None is functioning in a plural way, and we need the plural verb to make sure that there's agreement. So that's why, in this sentence, we reach for the verb have, which is plural. None of my stamps have lost their value. In other words, it wouldn't be correct to say, "None of my stamps has lost their value." So I hope that this makes it a little bit clearer about how to make sure that there's agreement in your sentence when you come across that tricky word, none.

When you look at a horoscope, we break it up into twelve different sections. And so the First House is the House of the Self. And every single house in the chart actually means something different. So, the First House is the House of the Self. It's your personality, how other people see you, it's your early part of life, your very early childhood, your birth. Freedom comes with money, so the ability to earn the money, it also gives you a certain amount of freedom, right? And, it also deals with any kind of value system that you have. The Third House deals with brothers and sisters, your neighborhood, your car, commuting, transportation, and your mind, the way you think. The Fourth House rules your mother, your father, your family, your home, the end of life, the conditions at the end of life, and also real estate. The Fifth House rules your children, your love affairs, your talents, things that give your pleasure and amuse you. The Sixth House rules your health, your daily activities, your routines, what you do everyday. It also rules your coworkers. The Seventh House rules all your partnerships - your business partnerships, you romantic partnerships, marriage, your clientele. It also rules lawyers, legal battles. The Eighth House, rules joint finances, sex, death, and transformation. The way you challenge yourself is often shown by the Eighth House. The Ninth House rules philosophy, higher learning, foreign things, massive travel, long-distance travel, and publishing. The Tenth House rules your career, your professional standing, how others see you in society, and also the contributions that you bring to life. The Eleventh House is a house of groups, future wishes and goals, and friends. It's also the house of networking. The Twelfth House is the house of retreat, things you do behind the scene, it's your house of dreams, the unconscious mind, things that are hidden, things that you can't see, and also secret enemies. And those are the twelve house and what they mean!

How to Use Pronouns | Grammar Lessons

03:35
Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515764-How-to-Use-Pronouns-Grammar-Lessons I would like to talk to you about how to use pronouns.     To start we need to understand what a pronouns is.  The short answer to that is that a pronoun stand in for a noun.  They follow under three categories,  there's the personal pronoun, the possessive and the reflexive.  To give you an example of each let's say my name is Stephanie, my personal pronoun would be I my possessive pronoun would be mine and  my reflexive pronoun would be myself.  And just so you know reflexive  basically means like a mirror.  So in a sentence reflexive pronoun like myself would reflect off another noun or pronoun that means the same thing.  To give you more examples  personal pronoun might be you , your, and yourself.  As you can see people have pronouns but things have pronouns as well and that would be it.  Like Central Park in New York City you would refer to as an it.  So in the spring Central Park has beautiful flowers or it has beautiful flowers.   One word of warning about using pronouns is that sometimes you can have what we call pronoun confusion in your writing.  If you use too many pronouns the reader might have a hard time understanding who you are referring to.  Let me give you an example.   You might see a sentence that says he bought an ice cream cone for him.  In this sentence we have two pronouns he and him but it is not quite clear who he and him are?   This happens a lot for writers we might introduce characters at the beginning of the chapter for a sentence and then go on to refer to them only by pronouns and our readers get confused  on what are characters are doing.   So in this case you can clarify by getting rid of the pronouns and actually using the nouns.  Like you might say Kyle bought an ice cream cone for his brother.  Much clearer sentence now we can visualize who the characters are.  One more note about pronouns they reason we use them is because they can, they can help our sentences  be much more interesting.  It can be cumbersome to constantly refer to people by their name or by their proper nouns.    I have a friend who is a doctor in New Zealand and he said they tend to not us pronouns very much.   And so, when he's taking in a patient the nurse might say to the patient Matt is going to take blood pressure and Matt is going to give you some oxygen and Matt is going to leave the room and Matt is going to come back in an hour and see how you 're doing.  You can see how that sentence becomes incredibly clunky.   And that is why pronouns can really be our friend.  They can make our sentences much more smooth , much more readable.  This is a primer who to use pronouns in your writing.

Verb to Use When Subject Is "Each" | Grammar Lessons

02:05
Watch more Grammar Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/515759-Verb-to-Use-When-Subject-Is-Each-Grammar-Lessons So, I'm going to talk to you about how to make sure that your subject and your verb agree when 'each' is part of your subject. 'Each' is a pronoun, and there are three kinds of pronouns. There are singular pronouns, there are plural pronouns, and there are pronouns that kind of swing both ways. 'Each' happens to be a singular pronoun, which means that anytime you see it in a sentence, the subject is singular. There are few other pronouns like this, whenever you see words that have 'each,' 'one,' 'body,' or 'thing,' such as 'everyone,' 'everybody,' 'everything'. Those words are singular. Let me give you an example of how this might look in a sentence. Our sentence is 'Each of the boys carry or carries his books.' So, I always begin by finding the verb in the sentence, because it's the easiest to find. In this case, the word 'carry' or 'carries' is going to be our verb or our action. So to find the subject, we look for the actor. And in this case, the actor is 'Each of the boys'. So 'Each of the boys,' becomes our subject. We're trying to decide if this subject is singular or plural. And we see the word 'boys,' so it's very tempting to think that this is a plural subject. But don't be fooled. Notice the word 'Each,' and remember that 'each' always signifies a singular subject. So in this case,'Each of the boys,' is singular. You could read it as, 'Each one of the boys,' in this case, 'carries his books.' We need to go for the singular form of the verb 'carry'. So 'Each one of the boys carries his books.' So that's how you make sure that the subject and the verb agree when 'each' is part of the subject.

I'm Joined by Katie Chrest Erbe, who's an assistant coach at Columbia with me, and Caitlin Jackson with Gameday Lacrosse. Today, we're gonna talk about major fouls. If Katie is bringing the ball down the field and Caitlin is not in proper position, proper position being just to the left of her shoulder or a step in front. A major foul is if Caitlin brings her stick above shoulder width, comes across the top of Katie's head, and goes for this stick check. That's considered a major foul, because it is unsafe play. You cannot bring your stick head over the top of somebody's head. Caitlin would be told to come four meters behind, Katie would maintain possession, and the ref would continue play. Another example of a major foul, is within eight meter play. If Katie has possession of the ball, and Caitlin does not bring her body close enough to Katie's, but instead just extends her arms straight, knocking Katie off balance. That is most likely gonna be considered a major foul. The referee will blow the whistle, and Katie will be awarded a free position shot on one of the eight meter hashes. In order to avoid the foul, Caitlin needs to make sure that she is a safe distance from Katie, her knees are bent, and if she is to put contact or pressure on Katie, her elbows remain bent. She does not extend them, locking her elbows, again knocking Katie off balance. Another example of a major foul is a check towards the body. Caitlin's in good defensive position here, but Katie has her stick within the sphere of her head. If Caitlin is to check the stick towards Katie's head, that's gonna be considered a major foul. Again, anything coming towards the head, over the head, within the sphere of the head, is gonna be considered a major foul. Katie would be awarded an eight meter hash for a free position shot to goal. To make this legal, Caitlin would need to step to this side of Katie and make sure that Katie, she does not go for the check, until Katie's stick is away from her body and Caitlin can make the check away from Katie's body. Another example of a major foul is checking across somebody's body, when you're out of position. if you remember from the earlier example, in order to make this legal, Caitlin needs to be next to Katie's shoulder or a step ahead. If she is behind Katie, and is going for the check across her body, that once again will bring the stick into the sphere of Katie's head, making it an illegal major foul, because it's unsafe. Katie would be awarded the ball, Caitlin would be asked to go four meters behind, and the play would resume with Katie's possession. So, those are a few examples of major fouls. Keeping in mind that the referees are trying to keep the game safe, that we have a sphere around the head of every player, that the referee's making decisions on. Is your stick coming within that sphere, is it coming across somebody's body, is it coming too close to somebody's head. That's what's gonna get you a major foul.

I'm the Head Lacrosse Coach at Columbia University. I'm Joined by Katie Chrest Erbe, Assistant Coach at Columbia, and Caitlin Jackson with Gameday Lacrosse. Today, we're gonna talk about some basics of checking in the game of lacrosse. Safety is a big part of our game, so you have to make sure that you're checking correctly. Some of the basics include; making sure that you're in front of your attacker, to make sure that you have a good vision of her stick, and that typically, you're a step in front. In getting off a good legal check, you want to make sure that you wait until the attacker exposes her stick. Then when you're going for the check, you're really just using your hands. You're not stepping into it, you don't want to lose your balance, cause that usually results in a foul. As soon as your attacker exposes her stick, you wanna reach towards the corner of the head. This is one of the best and the fastest ways to get the ball out of her stick head. Using a quick down and up motion is what's gonna help you get the ball out of her stick, safely and legally. You don't need to put all of your weight into it and you don't want to hold your stick on top of hers, that will result in a foul. So, remember, make sure that you're in front of the attacker, you wait for her stick to be exposed, and you do everything quickly, just with your hands, so that you can get the ball back safely.
