CCNA, or Cisco Certified Network Associate, is a highly sought-after Information Technology certification that was developed by Cisco to recognize basic competency in the installation and support of small- to medium-sized networks.
To obtain the core CCNA certification, the candidate must pass either two individual exams or a single combination exam.
Alternative 1: take ICND1 and ICND2 exams. Passing both of these exams will lead to CCNA certification. ICND1 exam is 90 minutes long whereas the ICND2 is only 75 minutes in duration. Both exams are comprised of between 40 -- 50 questions.
Alternative 2: take combination CCNA (CCNAX) exam. This is one 90-minute, proctored, multi-choice exam, of between 45 and 55 questions, which covers a wide range of topics pertinent to a basic understanding of network administration.
Before we look at the topics that are covered let's first consider who might be interested in obtaining CCNA certification.
What is CCNA Certification and is it Right for Me?
If you are interested in computer networks and looking to enter the workplace as an IT Engineer then the answer is a resounding 'YES'.
This certification can assist you in landing your first networking position. Without the CCNA certification, not only will you not be taken seriously by companies when looking for a networking position, you also will not be able to specialize in areas such as security, voice, or wireless networks. Cisco also provides separate exam-based certifications CCNA Security, CCNA Voice and CCNA Wireless along with a number of other tracks that recognize those respective areas of networking.
For those already in IT, the CCNA certification can be instrumental in further career progression.
The types of positions open to IT engineers that hold the CCNA certification include Network Administrator, Network Technician, Network Engineer or Systems Engineer, Information Systems Manager, Network Programmer, Network Analyst, to name just a few.
IT engineers for such positions are sought after and demand good salaries.

Im pretty new to thiw whole thing.
I just started studying, but i randomly had an interesting conversation with a guy working on one of the biggest internet service providers of my country.
So i asked him if i should take this cert to qualify for his isp.
The answer was DEFINITELY.
He assured me (as i read on the comments on this video) that you almost always start as a helpdesk guy answering phones, but after that you get to go one lever higher after some time.
hi Cisco and everyone here, i am new on networking arena but wanna to reach the highest level of networking in the future. i am from Somalia so could you please guide me to online websites of cisco certificates? and could you tell me the outline of courses? i mean how they are next to each other. anyone can tell me what he knows about my questions. i appreciate your reply, thanks.
great man, as u mentioned, still studying and u r thinking of about salary after completion.
however, CCNA makes professional through a certificate but though u start with 25k (less than to than). salary is based on the experience on any profession. No company simply offers you for high salary just because we do CCNA and no experience. we have start with job and get profession standards and then grew higher.
just by doing CCNA certification not help for high salary..!
hey hi,m from INDIA and i need a help , m Bachelor Engineer from industrial Electronics branch. i want do CCNA certification, so will you please guide me ,is there is job opportunity for network eng. in india ? what type of groth i can expect by it in india n in future? waiting for your support
Ok kids here it is , the truth . You can have all the degrees and certs but if you don't know wtf to do when they asked u to perform a task , you will not get any jobs . A lot of people come into the jobs and want training and have no idea how to troubleshoot anything . Bottom line ;you don't need degrees or certs if you can proof that you are good and know wtf ur doing aka experience .
nothing !! i just was the best in the interviews and the understanding the concepts of the network in job interview!!!
and i am in the CCNP now i pass the routing module still want to pass the switching the troubleshooting !!

but what is it? What does a CCNA actually do? What is it like to work in IT as a CCNA? How do people decide to actually get this certificate? I feel like people are deciding to do this for the money and no other reason, but if I'm going to be sitting down for 8 hours typing in commands all day long then you count me out. I just want to know what it is really like.
+Jdiggy77 Thank you for the thorough advice. I'm just about to get into this without any academic background, and what you said cleared things.
Is there any respectable source of information which you can recommend for whenever I need more knowledge?
+danny ho You're welcome. My last tip is to learn Microsoft Visio 2013. That's the program used by techs and engineers in the field for documentation.
If you have some Visio documentation in your portfolio, you'll be well ahead of other entry-level applicants.
I am in a course in Ireland In DIT where the course is called Networking technologies and I earn CCNA certificate at the end of it but i was thinking of doing a computer science course instead of the networking one , can someone please give me hints on what would be the best choice regarding career choices , wages in future career etc?
I was making chump change (15 an hour) @ a bank analyzing loans all day. One night I decided to go back to my roots and pick up networking again, crammed the CCNA books and took the exam after 3 weeks. I passed.I applied for entry/mid level CCNA required jobs, landed one with a medium sized pharm company as one of their network 'specialists' and now im making 60,000 a year with benefits. To some this isn't much, but for a 23 year old like myself its A LOT! This certificate DOUBLED my income, LITERALLY
I think you can ..infact anyone can .some of the websites i have gone through about schools that offer authorized CISCO certifacates mentioned that they accept 13-17 year old individuals .
I think it's only better to have at least a one year experience as a network technician/engineer because you will already have gotten a lot of "hands on"learning you and you'll be familiar with the hardware and techniques used .
