Probably no one's going to see this but I went for work experience as a high school student to a medical centre and the thing about lunches every day provided by drug representatives is true in a small town in Australia

But, Why do "Moral" Dems like Crooked Booker, Menendez, Warner and others quietly behind closed doors vote against and defeat less expensive pharma entering the US market from Canada over 2 years ago citing "safety". I'm confident fixed income elderly citizens wouldn't be pleased with these deceiving hypocritical scoundrels putting their pharma lobbyist(s) "Safety" interests/pockets before Americans financial and health needs. Just sharing the fact(s) however, Google it if you like.

It's like America is some gigantic social engineering experiment where capitalism, the desire for a small government, Christianity, and materialism have all been allowed to become as virulent as possible...and then we watch the consequences.

Marketing to doctors is bad, marketing to customers is also bad (you covered this in case different episode). Then who can these companies market to? Just say it. Marketing pharmaceuticals to anyone is a bad idea. Informing doctors is one thing, giving them incentive to sell should be Illegal. Advertising prescription drugs to consumers with no medical expertise should also be banned.

My psychiatrist tried to force me on Klonopin, despite me telling him my regular low dose med cleared my panic attacks. I took Klonopin once and it fucked me up. Needless to say, I switched psychiatrists.

Went on the website. It doesn't seem to include family nurse practitioners, which can also prescribe drugs autonomously

it is funny he speaks like these about other drugs, but vaccines are magically 100% safe lol...
hominyboy (4 дня назад)
There's nothing magic about it. IF you can provide actual scientific, verifiable, and repeatable evidence showing how vaccines are unsafe, then please do so. Otherwise, you have to accept the fact that the reason there's no genuine commentary on the damage done by vaccines, it's because there is no basis for such.

My brother is a doctor and he gets to travel all over the world, pay for by drug companies, where he goes to conferences and decides what drugs to push. This is why the pharmaceutical industry is only second to the armament industry in America. I'm just glad I'm not sick!

On top of that, the pharmaceutical political lobbying is H-U-G-E across the globe. NOT just in the United States. It is a political cash cow and slush fund for the corrupted Globalists! The medical strides made are good but, their political influence and control is a disease riding on the backs of the despondent who hope their medical problems have a cure. Good intentions paved by disgusting political and profit driven sway! BTW, in particular, those in power today (in the USA) are killing the profit margin for the pharmaceutical industry with the War of Opioids! Take Down the pharmaceutical cartels! Yes. Although, the backlash is they will raise the price of "approved" drugs...that's a real F'k stick! Capitalism is good if driven by free-market forces that work to constrain corruption and abuses but, that's not today's environment of the profit driven political lobbying and marketing interventionism tactics by the pharmaceutical industry! You all are naive if you believe we are in Afghanistan to liberate "the people", fight "Terrorism", keep Americans safe, and spread Democratic ideology! Oil and Drugs, baby -- Don't take my word for it follow the money you will find the power behind it! They are not protecting "OUR" interests. We are there protecting "THEIR" investments.

I do need to mention something about off-label prescriptions A use for a medication being non-FDA regulated doesn't inherently mean that the use is *wrong*, only that the FDA hasn't approved it. There are a couple medications available as generics that have off-label use that are provably safe. - Estrodial is used as birth control. Off-label, it's used for hormone replacement therapy; to ease symptoms of menopause in cisgender women, and makes physical changes in transgender women. - Spironolactone is used as a diuretic. Off-label, it's used for its anti-androgen effects; clearing up acne, as well as aiding estrodial in transgender women (without either it or another anti-androgen, the estrodial has little effect) - Finasteride is used to treat hair loss. Off label it's also used as a weaker anti-androgen in transgender women. - Progesterone is used to regulate periods and aid fertility. Off-label, again, it's used by transgender women as one of the hormones that we simply do not produce enough of. - Testosterone is used to help treat breast cancer and to aid fertility. Off-label, it makes physical changes in transgender men, and since it has an overshadowing effect on estrogen, trans men don't need anti-estrogens like trans women need anti-androgens. There's a pattern here. Of course the FDA wouldn't approve anything for trans people. The point: It's the use case and the evidence, not the fact that it's simply off-label, that makes an off-label use of medication bad. Of course pharmaceutical companies encouraging off-label use of their medications as a panacea is a horrible practice. But it's not the fact that it's off-label that makes it a bad practice.

Whether you're a consumer, politician, doctor or executive, all of us are wise to think about the marketing that's influencing us as we make decisions. If we delude ourselves into thinking it doesn't affect us, we're just willfully blinding ourselves and giving it more power. If you're saying "no, it really doesn't work on me," you're wrong. I spent several years of my career doing data science on the way people interact with advertising. Here's the reality: *everybody is influenced by the advertising they experience.* If your brain is working, it's forming associations based on the things you see, hear and experience. If some of that is advertising, that advertising is influencing the way you will think in the future. (Odds are good that you've already thought about some specific brand while reading this comment just because I mentioned advertising.) The mistake people think is that they imagine advertising "works" if it somehow overrules your brain and makes you go buy something right away. Most advertising is not designed to trigger an immediate action, and no person is this suggestible. Instead, it's designed to make you more likely to think of a specific brand in a situation, or to shape the way you think about that brand's products. This is not necessarily malicious or harmful, but we should be mindful of its influence on us.

Yeah i can verify this is all true. I worked as a Vet tech before going to vet school and the drug reps would always come by and bring us all breakfast and free samples. They would even have multiple clinics compete in sales of certain monthly preventatives and which ever clinic sold the most over a 1 month period would get taken out to dinner all on their tab. So like we would sell say $10k worth of a drug and they would take us out to a $1000 dinner the next month

Pharmaceuticals DO NOT CURE. And that's messed up because we take these pills and "medication" to feel better but pharmaceuticals will most likely cause you more harm than Good. BY LAW, Pharmaceuticals are required to tell you about harmful side effects. MEDICATION is not meant to have side effects EVER. This is the BS pharmaceuticals feed us into thinking it's NORMAL but when you're trying to recover, you should never experience any side effects.

I was prescribed seroquel for sleep and anxiety by several doctors. I ended up gaining over 100lbs bc of it in a year, then got severe depression, which I never had before, went back to my psychiatrist and told him that, and he suggested upping my seroquel to help with the depression! I eventually refused it. So he ended up putting me on klonipin and an anti-depressant, even tho I said I knew I didn’t have clinical depression for no reason, I had situational depression bc I had gained so much weight so fast.

when i was 14 i spent 2 days in the break room of a walk in clinic Dr's office because it was summer and that's where my mom worked. I ate 3 free meals a day, and got to hear and see some of these reps pitching to Dr's. It was everything and more that J Oliver was saying. I befriended one of them. She's like hey kid you have the gift of gab and you're handsome, you should be a pharm rep. She even told me, word for word here "the company will teach you basic science, you just need to know how to sell drugs". Every rep that showed up drove a BMW or a really nice SUV haha.

On the other side of this, promotion and education of available medications has helped me in innumerable ways. I was prescribed Welbutrin for the mentioned needs and it has helped me very much, even though that isn't the FDA's prescribed use for it yet. I also am on a life-changing lotion for my extreme skin problems that was developed as an acne medication. Thanks to a "thought leader" sharing it with my dermatologist, I was prescribed it and am literally the healthiest I have ever been in my entire life. There is much more corruption and issues in the way the FDA limits drug companies' incentives to research, and prolong the approval process before the drugs can be provided to the desperately-needing public.

If you haven't seen the commercial for lyrica check it out. They say that fibromyalgia is "thought" to be pain from overactive nerves and lyrica is "believed" to block those signals. Its wonderful to know that the "medical" community advertising a drug they "believe" a will work for a condition they "think" is caused by something!!! Unbelievable

This is the one case that John Oliver misrepresented. Doctors do not make money prescribing meds, they only write prescriptions, the Walgreens, CVS, etc are the ones who charge for meds, and they DO NOT give kickbacks to doctors.

The thing I honestly don't get is why they just won't sell placebos without side effects instead of real drugs? If someone doesn't really need the medication you suggest him why not suggest a less dangerous placebo? That would still be shitty but at least not be playing with peoples live just because they want to sell more drugs.

Medicare part D or part 4 was added during the G.W. Bush's administration. Along other gems like the Patriot Act, and the tax cut budget for the richest class of people in the U.S. It basically boils down to forcing medicare to only use the brand name of any drug. So instead of medicare being able to use the cheaper but identical generic form of a drug, they must use the much more expensive brand name version of it. The generic form of a drug is simply the same pill, but the patent has run out, and due to free market blah, blah, blah, the pill has become cheaper. God only knows how much money the drug companies have stolen from the American tax payer with this, and that is only one of the many, many fucked up things that makes health care so expensive. Remember that health care is somewhere between 30% and 40% of the annual budget of the U.S. Its insane.

Someone once said to me that the most detrimental force to any society was it's own people. And right now in America this is so very very true. It's coming from political, financial and religious powers. The political are up for sale to the financial, supported buy the religious. And this is all from within, not a foreign power trying to invade or take over but all buy greed from people who call America their home doing it to other Americans.
