I think men can never get blonde girls as their girlfriends so they use the dumb blonde stereotype to shamed these women down.

This stereotype was started by Jews who hate white people. Only white people are naturally blonde, and usually the really white people have more blonds then others so Jews made this popular through their control of the media and Hollywood

A joke my dad told me went like this (actually 2 jokes) News stations keep reporting blondes dying in the orange juice section of a store. Everyone was stunned until they realized that the boxes said "concentrate". A blonde walks into a barber shop wearing headphones. The barber takes off the headphones for her haircut. Once they're done they discover the blonde girl is dead. The barber listens and hears the headphones and they say "breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out" He told these jokes to me, his blonde daughter.

One thing you missed is that the stereotype might have been reinforced during or after Nazi Germany; maybe anti-Nazis, ie: sensible people had enough, and, out of anger tried to push back against the idea of blondes being superior using things like, I guess, blonde jokes. Y’know, Nazis love blondes... Makes sense since blondness is a characteristic of being very White... So I guess in a way it might have become an anti-Aryanism/Nordicism thing.

I'm 11 and me, my best friend and her boyfriend are all blonde and in my opinion we are probably the smartest people in the class. Just because some blondes may be stupid doesn't mean all blondes are stupid. And how exactly is the colour of your hair supposed to affect your intelligence? Smh.
Fairest Moss (11 месяцев назад)
No, please, when your'e talking about how much real and natural blondes hate this stereotype, feel free to bring it loud. I do also find it funny that the presumably "original dumb blonde" also _actually had a natural blonde hair color_ and not the platinum yellow everyone usually goes with. Honestly, that makes me just a little more okay with this than I was just a few minutes ago, because at least real and natural blondes who don't have that stark yellow or whitish color (which is most of us, as it usually starts getting darker by the time we're in the late elementary school age range) weren't always flying this far under the radar.

Some famous fair haired or "blonde" people who are not dummies .. . glen close Joni Mitchel Klaus Kinski Charleze Theron Tom Petty David Bowie Mia Farrow Sorise Ronan Heather O'rourke Meryl Streep Paul Williams Randy Rhoads Julian Sands Stephanie March Kim Gordon Terri Garr Bonnie Tyler Sissy Spacek Rod Stewart Olivia Newton John Kurt Cobain Bonnie Bramlett Tina Weymouth Sandal Bergman Robert Redford Brian Setzer Stevie Nicks Sting Gweneth Paltrow And I'll tell you where I believe, or at least suspect, the famous "dumb blonde" or "blonde bimbo" stereotype comes from, and mind you it won't sound "politically correct" I'm aware but fuck with it! THAT particular stereotype was originally created by, and has been chiefly perpetuated by, influential jews working in the modern media ( which mainly includes television, hollywood movies, popular music, advertising and, in this case, even the porn industry ) who were sore about the old "aryan" propaganda of nazi Germany ( which resulted in the infamous "holocaust" ) and today exploit it as a form of retribution for same. This explanation seems particularly plausible when you consider that this particular stereotype had first really appeared during the 1950's, - just a short time after world war two and the holocaust.

I have thought about this as well, and my theory is that the stereotype was born simply because more women than men are really blonde (no statistics on this, only my own observations done in the lands of the blonds, scandinavia where I live), and we see women as less intelligent than men

From what I remember of gentlemen prefer blondes (the film) Marilyn seemed pretty bright. "Don't you know that a man being rich is like a girl being pretty? You wouldn't marry a girl just because she's pretty, but my goodness, doesn't it help?" For the time when women needed to get married quickly and might want a rich husband, maybe being stupid (and blonde) might help you get that. I'm not saying it was a very good idea but I suppose if you really wanted that, it was.

Not all blondes are dumb.... Well except one of my friends. No offense to her, but it was so hilarious when she said "the year two thousand zero", or the tine ( in less than the next thirty minutes) asked when the fourth of July was. I mean, she might've been joking on the second one but I'm not kidding!!!! 😂

My mom always says "you're only a dumb blonde if you're dumb enough to bleach your hair", because she believes women who care too much about appearance don't spend enough time becoming book smart. I don't agree with this at all, and anyways, she dyed her hair red for the longest time, so it's a very hypocritical thing for her to say

Perhaps the stereotype is in part due to blonde being associated with youth, and consequently naïveté . Because hair can darken with age, fair hair is seen as childlike by some people. I don't hold this belief, to be honest I just associate this hair colour with being Caucasian. I am in love with a Blond Latino and he's an absolute brainiac !

I'm a natural blond nearing 30 I still get my ID checked for lotto tickets. I recently donated my hair, do so every few years when it gets too long, but this time I decided to dye it red. Apparently it made me look older or I was perceived as being more mature cause for the few weeks I was a redhead the same people who checked my ID at the lotto counter didn't bother to do so while I was a redhead. They went back to checking my ID as soon as my blond came back. I knew a woman who was a natural blond and dyed her hair brown because according to her as a blond her colleagues would talk to her chest (she also had big boobs) but as a brunet they didn't.

As long as we are on this subject. Where did people start thinking redheads we hot-headed? I know they were once known for their witchery and since then it is all downhill. I am the most passive, quiet and easy-going person of everyone it seems.

Thank you Cristen for doing this video! I normally don't get offended when my family or close friends say blonde jokes and I'm the punch line- I laugh along with them. I just hate when people I don't know too well or not close with do the same them. I once was part of a study group and I was having trouble spelling a simple word (we all experience that), and one of the guys laugh and said "this is why I love being around blondes." I try not to act "dumb" in public but I have some forgetful moments and I'm a bit of a klutz but brunettes and redheads and any other person experience the same thing and some people (like me) experience it more. I'm not dumb, I know a lot and I'm going for my undergrad- I guess I'm sensitive but I know how it feels to be stereotyped.

My whole family are natural blondes, as well as academically inclined (my mother has a Masters in nutrition and my sister skipped a grade), but we still tell each other blonde jokes all the time. I don't actually believe the stereotype of course, and I have no sympathy for anyone who does, but I sometimes joke about being a dumb blond when I do or say something really stupid. P.S. It's spelled blonde for women and blond for men, for all the grammar nazis out there. Heil Grammar!
MrsRCharlton (3 года назад)
I think that's true of most stereotypes. While it might be ingrained in our pop culture, thinking people know an individual is not a stereotype.  You can have brunettes that are dumb as posts, and blonde geniuses, Canadians who arent' hockey loving, flannel wearing hicks, and Americans who don't resemble Homer Simpson.  It's actually kind of amazing when you do find someone who does embody said stereotype, almost like they're a caricature of themselves.
KirstyLynne (3 года назад)
Being a natural blonde people think it is sooo funny to tell me dumb blonde jokes.  I finished top of my HS, received a BA in Physics, MS in Material Science, and am about to finish my PhD in Electrical Engineering. To say I find these jokes less than amusing is an understatement. Thankfully this doesn't happen so much anymore and usually goes "did you hear the one about the dumb blonde?" and then they never finish the joke.

amazing how these hair colour stereotypes don't seem to be applied to men nearly as much as they are to women. i'm a natural blonde though and other than hearing the dumb blonde jokes i haven't ever really faced any criticism where my intelligence has been concerned over my hair colour before, though i have been really the odd one out and left out of school groups before for being blonde and having fair skin, a foreigner, subjected to much racism and bullying simply because i didn't have dark brown - black thick hair and dark tanned skin like the rest of the spanish kids did, i was spat in the face twice for being a foreigner. i was physically bullied for months for my blonde hair by one girl, other foreign students from morroco or cuba or chile didn't get bullied like i did at all because they fit in on the outside, dark skin and dark hair, they even joined in with the bullying, especially the morrocan boys, they despised me and made it very clear they did, they thought themselves above me just because they were male, and couldn't stand it when i was so passive to anything they said or did, the times they threatened to punch me or kick me ect i threatened the suspensions they would have in return and that i would not keep quiet, they hated that a girl actually stood against them so much, now due to a severe allergy to nuts that can kill me in about 10 minutes, my class had to be notified of my allergy in order to discourage them from bringing nuts into the classroom ect, the morrocan boys one day thought it would be funny to bring nuts into the classroom and to start throwing them at me.... i spent the next two nights in hospital, the next week and a half out of school, they were given 3 month suspensions and moved to a different class........racism, sexism and bullying at their finest, i had experienced all three by age 14. I'd just like to say here that the bullying ect did lessen after i was nearly killed but was still a big part of my life for years to come as was sexism and that those negative people that i talked about in my comment are a minority and in no way represent my opinions of those nationalities as a whole, spain is a lovely country overall,  ect ect you catch my drift right?  essentially people need to get the frick frack over their problems with peoples exterior appearances, genders, sexual preferences, religious beliefs or lack of and just treat people like people, treat others how you want to be treated yourself and screw all that other crap, just throw it out the window, blahh icky nuu byeee

+sunlightdawns Well it's a big step in your life I'd say. They are probably just concerned about you considering the past you had and just overall. Hopefully you'll manage to convince them in helping you financially if your passion resides at the American university. If not ( or you don't afford it as a family and I assumed it wrong ), well, maybe you can make the most out of the current choice and situation, though it would be a shame to be forced to study something you don't like, also difficult obviously. How am I? Just in highschool still, last year, no clue what to do with my future, trying to hope time solves things doesn't seem to help either. "Everything at it's appropiate time they say", meh. Otherwise, glad I could make your day better, your story touched me as well. Nobody should go through what you did, but as people say again, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger". Wish you the best, cya.

K0ragg (3 года назад)
We are all humans first and foremost. People tend to forget that and use other things like gender, sexual orientation, nationality, skin color and religious beliefs over it. Truly stupid and saddening. I am sorry that you experienced what you did, though it probably won't help you much. You are one hell of a person to actually stand and resist all that. Highschool can be like that for certain people, some remember it forever with nostalgia, others never try to think of it again once they graduate. It seems like your life got better though, glad to hear that, also hope it is actually better. Good day.
Britta Schaefer (3 года назад)
I am a natural blonde and I have always been aware of the dumb blonde stereotype. It has never really affected me. No one, to my knowledge, has ever assumed I was dumb because of my hair color. However, I have encountered two other blonde stereotypes that I've had to deal with. In my experience, people seem to consider blondes more "pure". People have often told me that they perceive me as "innocent". (Innocent of what?) When I ask them why they usually tell me it's because I'm short and shy and "girly" looking and, of course, blonde. People I don't know often seem shocked the first time they see me do something like curse. They eventually get used to it because I tend to curse a lot. The other thing people tend to assume about me is that I dye my hair. This can be particularly frustrating because they don't ever seem to believe me when I correct them. I guess these aren't harmful assumptions, but they can be annoying to have to deal with and I'm often confused as to why people make them.
Stacey Smith (3 года назад)
Yeah it sucks. It's interesting, although I get crap from so many people I still love my hair colour. I can't imagine life without it. I can't understand why people treat hair colour like it defines intellect or personality. It's really no different than generalising race or gender.
Britta Schaefer (3 года назад)
Wow. I know historically there has been prejudice against redheads but I didn't know that that prejudice still existed. I'm sorry. There are a lot of people with red hair in my family and I find it beautiful. And I guess being "pure" isn't considered a bad thing. I just hate that people make that assumption about me based on something as arbitrary as hair color.
Stacey Smith (3 года назад)
I wish I was called pure and innocent. People always say I have no soul and I have even been told that I will go to hell for being a redhead.
purplepurrs (3 года назад)
+Britta Schaefer Yeah I don't mind the word so much the main problem is that people treated me differently, people that I considered friends just assumed I was slutty because I was blonde and most of the guys I thought liked me were just dating me because they thought I would have sex with them right away and told me it was just because I'm blonde. It's definitely a problem because I have gotten tons of harassment and sexual advances that made me scared of men starting from a young age and they completely stopped once I started dying my hair dark, also I know other girls that aren't blonde (also way prettier then me) that didn't get the same type of negative attention. Maybe it's worse here in CA but every single day when I walked to work there were men that stalked me in their cars or pulled over to try pick me up and "take me to a party" or just followed me for awhile trying to convince me to go out with them or give my number and it was very scary.
purplepurrs (3 года назад)
I'm kinda surprised at that as the most common stereotype I have to deal with being a natural blonde is people assume I'm a slut. :/
Oshin Sr (3 года назад)
Question, what is the history of hair dye?
Orly Welch (3 года назад)
As a 15 year old girl in a British state school, I find myself being categorized by my blonde, wildy curly hair. It's commented on very often- people mutter 'dumb blonde' under their breath, blonde jokes are shouted at me across the class, and people assume that I simply can't do things for myself. While I don't claim to be Einstein, I get good grades, so there is no reason for people to be shocked when I do well on a test. If people don't categorize me as dumb, they will often see me as a b****, and I will strike them as severe-another thing that has been pointed out to me in many imaginative and unkind ways. I find it a horrible stereotype to be subject to; before you even meet someone, they have decided what you will be like, and won't accept that you are anything else.
WrathOfHanha (3 года назад)
As a blond person who was not aware of this stereotype until I was well into elementary school, and dyed her hair a much darker color (for years!!!!) as a result of the negative stigma associated with my hair color, I can personally attest to the unnecessary bullshit (such as that some people think it's REALLY funny to point it out to me) that this stereotype causes for people like me. And then people go and discriminate much more seriously against people who have darker hair and skin than I do, and it makes me feel like I don't have the right to feel so negatively about the way people treat me.

Well seeing that blonde and red hair are mutations from brown hair that would suggest that we, scientifically, are superior. However, I don't believe that hair colour has any evolutionary advantage or disadvantage other than it being more subject to what part of the world your ancestors are from.

Feeling worried I'm 14 going to be 15 on December 22 and I still haven't had a period I have talked to a doctor and she that I might want to start to be worried if I still haven't had one by 15 I don't know it just kinda worries me so what do you think should I be worried or is there nothing wrong with me :/ #askcristen
sunlightdawns (3 года назад)
Hi hiii, i'm 20 years old, and didn't get my first period till i was 17 and im still actually suuuuper irregular and always will be as i have a syndrome the likes of which i cannot spell to save my life xD, and it actually just makes my cycle run really slow, i still have my period for only a week when it does come along and that it doesn't affect my fertility in the least, I just want to let you know that what doctors tell you about periods differs depending on where you are geographically, that you'll get your period when your body is ready and that you have nothing to worry about. additionally there is a severe lack of education to young people of all genders where periods are concerned, i didn't even know the syndrome i have existed at all until i was finally diagnosed with it a few months ago and according to my doctor it's not all that uncommon either, and whilst your more than likely just a late bloomer, that it could be any number of other things none of which is really a cause for concern oki, just tease other girls that you dont have yours yet xD it'll make them jelly you dont go through their monthly hell yet xD be evil...
scobeymeister (3 года назад)
I started late too, not till I was 16, and I turned out okay. There's nothing for you to worry about unless you're like 18-19 and still nothing. It's perfectly normal and your body is probably just a late bloomer. Everyone's body is different and just because a doctor says that it needs to happen now that's not necessarily true. There are a lot of factors that affect the timing of menarche and it's really not easy to predict what's healthy for any given person. So I'd say carry on and don't worry about it :)

Hello, Kristen. I have a question for you: Why do women get shamed for having short hair? I am a woman with short hair, and I have had men call me a man, and I even had a man say that short hair is ugly on women. Why do men hate short hair so much?
Emma Lindvall (3 года назад)
Where do you come from? I've had all sorts of short (and really short) hair styles for years, and most men I meet just says it fit me, and that it looks nice. Except for my dad...
Tânia Nielsen (3 года назад)
I have had short hair for most of my life, and never had a problem with men (never spent more than a few weeks without a date, and had some long term relationships), so there are plenty of men who like short haired women. Men are not a collective mind, they are individuals with individual thoughts and opinions, don't let any jerk convince you otherwise. Plus, I see my short hair as a sort of an asshole filter, since only men who are interested in me, not my looks, approach me. For me the funniest thing about the short hair is that people seem to think I'm a lesbian, and even argue between them about it (even when I'm in the same room!).

My freshman year of college I had three roommates. One was blonde, and I was (still am) a red head. It was funny watching the stereo types being played out in that college dorm. The blonde really was very dim witted. The other roommates and I would joke behind her back about just how blonde she was. I on the other hand, was a spaz. I had a temper and quickly became known for randomly crying and/or getting angry. That was almost ten years ago and I like to think that I have gotten that fiery redhead under control but sometimes she still comes out bagpipes blazing!

(Unrelated tangent) So... Lorelai's full name on Gilmore Girls comes from a name for a dumb blonde? (But also, and more likely, Marilyn Monroe's portrayal of her; an actress who was certainly not a dumb blonde!) Amy Sherman-Palladino really likes to throw around some meaty pop-culture references if that's what it's from. Go Amy!!

I once met a blonde lady with an IQ of 183 who was a member of Mensa. She told me she never slept. She would play Chess over the internet after dinner, solve Crossword puzzles till 10pm, then do Sudokus till midnight. Between midnight and dawn she'd speed read an entire novel. I invited her over to my place one time and while I fixed dinner I asked her to make some toast. I took out a loaf of bread and showed her where the toaster was. I left the kitchen and came back 5 minutes later. I asked: "Toast ready?"  She looked at me and replied: "How do I work this thing?"

i actually stereotype unnatural blondes (brunette eyebrows). In the back of my head i'm thinking people who make the effort to become a blonde are trying to fulfill the stereotype. Sure that's not realistic, but like all stereotypes its true for the minority thus giving it life. I'm literally judging them until they open their mouths and to see if they do the ditsy shtick. Then i'm relived and happy if they don't.
LifeEquals42 (3 года назад)
I am a natural blonde and I have never been called a dumb blonde to my face, thankfully. I am into fashion, but I am also a hard worker and have always gotten good grades. Some teachers seem surprised at first when they hear an intelligent and thorough answer to a question come out of an apparently stereotypical, style-obsessed teenage girl. However, they usually catch on quickly to the fact that that is not the case with me. A question for you, Cristen: In a past video you discussed fact that women who wear makeup in the workplace are generally perceived as more competent. However, I feel like the perception is opposite among teenagers. If a teenage girl wears makeup to school everyday, it seems that other teens will think of her as ditsy and unintelligent. I know that a person's grooming habits do not actually have a relationship with their intelligence, but I was wondering if there are any studies about the perception among teens.

Hm, when I was in high school I felt like I had to wear makeup everyday to fit in. Almost every girl wore it starting as a freshman, if you didn't you seemed more like a child I guess.
Stephie (3 года назад)
Is there a name for someone with black hair? Or do you just have to call them "a person with black hair"? I've always wondered this....
Stephie (3 года назад)
+Moionfire That makes sense. I'll try to fit that into future conversations!
Moionfire (3 года назад)
+Stephie They are called ravens.
Stephie (3 года назад)
+Rhonda Roots +sunlightdawns I was looking for a noun for the person. Like "a blonde, a read-head, a brunette". You probably wouldn't call someone _a_ coal or _a_ raven-like. I guess you could call someone a coal... maybe "a coal-head" might convey your meaning better? Otherwise they'll think you're talking about their skin color.

I've heard black hair be referred to as "coal" before in books

... are you telling me that Lorelai Gilmore named her daughter Lorelai Lee after a dumb blond in a book from the 1920s? Because now it's head-canon.

I'd always heard that Marilyn Monroe was actually pretty smart, but she was continually prevented from playing intelligent characters by managers and executives who wanted to type-cast her. Lisa Kudrow has a degree in Biology and was on her way to becoming a doctor when she started acting, and is now most famous for playing an air-head. Cristen, have you ever considered dying your hair blonde?
moonlily1 (1 год назад)
Marilyn Monroe wasn't well educated, but that wasn't her fault: she got shuffled around from home to home and her childhood was really unstable, as her mother was mentally ill and she was rarely well cared for. She wasn't in any one school for any length of time and developed a stutter from all the stress. She had to quit school when she was 16 to be married off to an older guy who lived next door because her foster family couldn't take care of her anymore. Her childhood was about merely surviving- mastering algebra wasn't a priority.  She wasn't, however, stupid: she was full of curiosity and had a wonderful imagination and a quick wit. She wrote poetry and kept a journal and was always attracted to intellectual men. She was very perceptive of human nature, and wanted dearly to be seen as more intellectual, made a big fuss over new encyclopedias and having the house full of books. She has some very beautiful insights, now and then, and could speak with depth- but she wasn't very wise, and maybe didn't have much common sense. Part of the image of her being "dumb" was actually just her trolling director Billy Wilder in Some Like it Hot- that she'd disagree with him completely about how the line would be read, would read it her way, and Wilder got mad. so for the second take, she'd read the line wrong on purpose: "where's the booze? or 'where's the bureau", on and on again, she'd say the way he wanted, with the wrong words, til he didn't care anymore how she said it anymore just as long as it were right, and that's the take they'd finally use: When she finally read the line correctly, exactly the way SHE wanted it be done. Wilder started the rumor that she couldn't remember a simple line at all and had to be fed dialogue, when really, she was just punking him to get what she wanted. If people wanted to think she was "stupid", she was really stupid like a fox.

Yeah, the whole 'dumb blonde' thing is nonsense. Blondes are not nearly as, um, intellectually challenged as all those ditzy brunettes! Intellectually challenged is politically correct, right?
Stikibits (3 года назад)
Where did "dumb blonde" come from? Dumb, blonde mums?
Patrick Melody (3 года назад)
Most of the blondes anybody's likely to run into these days are probably not genetically blonde.  Actually, that goes for all hair colors.   Still, let's run through all the hair color stereotypes for women... Blonde = Dumb, but sexy. Red = Wild in bed. Black = Smart, but evil. Brown = Girl next door. Gray = Aunt Mae. White = Grouchy. Other = Dangerous punk.

@Jannette Blanchard "The cliche of dumb blonds 99% of the time is about women" - I duno about that. I've seen quite allot of movies and television shows where blonde GUYS are portrayed as "dumb" SURFER types ( "Hey dude" ) and "dumb jock" BULLY types who pick on the nerds in high school settings.
Jeannette Blanchard (1 год назад)
@ pheonix 5 The cliche of dumb blonds 99% of the time is about women, so why list blond men at all? Blond hate always comes from envy. And, it most often comes from brunettes. And, it usually targets women, from catty excuses for other women. The next common source after that is non-blond siblings (of either gender), who are also probably attacking out of envy that ____ got the blond hair.

I think that redheads are generally percieved to be wild in general - tempestuous, firey, quick to anger.
Abraxian Absolution (3 года назад)
Do people really apply this to natural blondes right off the bat? The stereotype in my head is that particular kinds of vapid girls and occasionally women disproportionately gravitate towards the hair bleach/ blonde dye. It's not really even useful outside of media short-hand. I can't imagine any realistic scenario where you'd have any reason to judge someone's intelligence and not have a better indicator than hair color to go off of.
TiBun (3 года назад)
I'll second that^  I see it in my life all the time and I don't even have to leave my house. I'm a natural blonde, my sister is a natural brunette, and we are very much treated differently, even though i have proven time after time that I'm not a mindless airhead or "dumb blonde"
purplepurrs (3 года назад)
As a natural blonde I can say, YES, this happens to all of us and it sucks. .
aglove275 (3 года назад)
I had to write a paper about this in school and found that the dumb blonde started because women would "bleach" their hair blond. The chemicals then soaked into their brain and caused brain damage. Nowadays that obviously doesn't happen.
aglove275 (3 года назад)
Hair dying today is nothing like it use to be.
S. Stevens (3 года назад)
Ummm that might be what people thought would happen! That's gotta be what your teacher was trying to say. But bleaching your hair is not going to "soak" into the brain and damage it. People still bleach their hair to this day!
aglove275 (3 года назад)
I wasn't there so I don't know for a fact but I do know that that's what I was told in school when I had to do a report on it.
Freakazette (3 года назад)
not really. Do you really think that they're going to soak through all of your skin and your skull to actually kill brain cells? It was an excuse to make fun of "dumb blondes" and there's no real evidence for it whatsoever.
aglove275 (3 года назад)
Think about it. Putting chemicals ,that you or anyone don't really know about, in you hair. It makes sense that it could cause brain damage.

I have yet to meet someone who I felt was treating me like I was less intelligent because I'm blonde.  I know that I'm smart, and one of the smartest girls I know is also blonde.  So, I don't really feel like the stereotype is that present in my life.
emmadestruction (3 года назад)
I always thought it had to do with the platinum blonde bombshells of the 50s, women like Marilyn and Jane Mansfield playing into the adorable, cute, clueless thing men couldn't resist. (She's sexy as hell but has no idea! How attractive!) Good to know it goes back further than that. And I love that movie, Lorelai Lee isn't as dumb as she comes across. It's the men who fall for her over and over!

I used to have tons of issues in my honor classes in high school with people passing judgment on my intelligence based on the fact I was blonde. I was honestly surprised it was still a stereotype ingrained into our culture in 2005. It took getting the highest grades on exams and expertly dissecting and defining the fetal pig muscles for extra credit, before my lab group started letting me talk and trusting my answers for group lab quizzes. Honestly, it was pretty messed up.
TheUltimateCatLady (3 года назад)
I'm from Poland. Here this stereotype is also very prominant. As a blonde I find myself having to prove my intelligence on a DAILY basis, and heavens forbid if I actually have a "slow day" because of lack of sleep or studying too much (which in my case results in me being unable to hold a decent conversation about anything) - everyone assumes that I don't understand someone because I'm stupid. Also, when I do say something smart, that ends a discussion on sth or is just factual, suddenly I'm "the bitchy blond know-it-all". It's like you can't win with some people. -__-
neeneko (3 года назад)
I can recall decades ago there was a popular 'study' going around (yeah, bad science reporting is an old problem) that claimed to find a relationship between intelligence and breast size, and I saw a lot of people (mostly the same people who used words like 'feminazi') really latch onto it.  Since they were mostly interested in women with large breasts I guess it dovetailed with their belief that women were lesser beings. As for the 'dumb blonde' thing, I always though it was a form of sour grapes (since blondes were considered more attractive, and there was a social backlash similar to the thin-shaming we see today) combined with the older image of northern Europeans (who tended to be blonde) being uncultured brutes while ones with more Roman connecting being intellectually superior.
neeneko (3 года назад)
+StormyDmaster Sorry, I should have thrown an 'inverse' in there somewhere.  The rather questionable research indicated that breast size and intelligence were inversely proportional.
StormyDmaster (3 года назад)
Wait.....so the radical MRM wannabes latched onto the idea that big breasted women are smarter because they like women with big breasts so they can see women as lesser beings? Wait, if they like big breasted women and those women are smarter according to the study then doesn't that mean the want a partner who is smart and therefore and independent logical thinker as well as having big boobs of course. So how does that support their belief that women are lesser beings?

I'm a natural blonde. I just came home with straight A's, including in my 3 AP courses. Hair colour does not define intelligence.

True dat, my French teacher is 23 and she knows English, Spanish, French and Polish. I'm a blonde guy and I'm not stupid, but what is stupid is that blonde people are dumb stereotype.
rachelle2227 (3 года назад)
Interesting! I guess I'm a lucky blonde, because I don't think many people ever really think of me as a 'dumb blonde'. I think I act fairly intelligent (though mostly I'm just a loner), and I don't think I have that super dolled up look. In grade school I just looked like a geek with glasses and braces (thanks genetics!) When I got contacts and started wearing makeup in middle school I did attract some...immature people xD. In high school there were two girls on the bus that referred to me as Barbie, especially with my big sunglasses (sensitive eyes here). It didn't seem full hearted to me though, I just thought they were jealous. Feel free to share your experiences as a blonde lady (or of a friend, et cetera).

I'm from México, and when i was learning english my teacher told to the class how life is on the U.S.A. because she lived there for a couple of years And when she told us that blond people is considered dumb just for being blond nobody believed her, it took her a while for her to convince us that was true To this day this still sounds very bizarre to me
TheBernas24 (3 года назад)
that's probably because there are no blonde people in mexico.
rachelle2227 (3 года назад)
It does seem ridiculous, it's so engrained in pop culture. It dumb teen shows, it's often the blonde pretty girl that is portrayed as dumb. There are dumb blonde jokes, et cetera. It's just something everyone knows, like that all Americans love British accents lol. It only plays out so much in reality. What I think is weird is when people dye their hair platinum blonde. It's just my taste, but unless you're super pale I think it looks bad on most everyone.

Same here, I'm also Mexican, and since the moment I met my boyfriend (Mexican, but had lived in the U.S.), he's been very fond to stating how blondes 'trully' are dumb, because of his experience... I mean, I do believe he met dumb blondes, but they were most likely dumbish because that's how they were rather than for their hair color!
